I don't remember any houses during the era looking like those either. But they are an update mix of what was. None make me feel comfortable and bet very expensive to transition. I was middle class, so most homes remembered were still plain Janes in the 50s, 60s. Into the 70s, working and raising kids took more of my life than decorating. We did have a huge macrame the size of one dining room wall. It was in the 80s though, either we missed the era or macrame lasted a couple of eras. Loved it then, but couldn't do this again. We also had gold mixed shag carpet and matching heavy drapes, plus a plaid sectional. Along with a carpet rake. And, a couple of walls of grass cloth. Knowing the paste used to put that stuff up, I bet the later owners had a problem on their hands getting it off. I do remember a lot of wall paper going up in my home, but is was more subdued and smaller prints. Bell bottoms were awful and polyester casual suits. Even the kids wore them. I wore a lot of poly outfits too....blouses were really ugly. Let's hope this part never shows up again. The best of the best is jeans. Think about how long they have been around and are still in style.

Stay true to the original design intent of the house style. It is a shed-style home from the late 70's early 80's. Your siding is in great shape. Keep it maintained. I would re-stain the white trim back to gray and be done with it. Add pops of color at your front entry. Trying to make it 'more contemporary' such as 3 types of siding and etc will take away from the inherent look of what that house IS....a shed style home.

I would keep the stone at the entrance but give it a new important appearance. There is a new technique where the grout lines are filled with new mortar up to the face of the stone to create a completely different more fresh & rustic appearance for the stone. I have also seen the filled grout lines with a lime wash over the stone to create a more even appearance. Here is the lime wash used on a stone wall to illustrate the Before & After. Here are options for your front door. I think the balance of your home could be painted or stained white. Or you can consider painting the shed design a gray value

As for the house, itself, a new paint color with Patricia’s deck/stiars, the exterior will show beautifully. My suggestion for the body of the house: what if you just painted the entire house white, brick and stucco? Pink roof would be a stand-out. Inquire about power washing the roof. We had it done professionally, with no negatives. Pool decking: we have chosen “forever lawn”. No, it is not astro turf! Not cheap, but the product is amazing. It drains, doesn’t stain or mildew, is cool to the touch…. Worth investigating, which I did after I saw it myself in a friend’s front city yard. Trees need trimming and a new driveway would be ++++.
