tile transition from shower wall to ceiling - need ideas!
Comments (16)It's a little late now, but if you'd centered the middle of a tile instead of a grout joint, you would've eliminated that skinny little piece on either side, and still stayed centered. That aside, it looks good so far! Ivette-- I'm getting an education right now with respect to balloon construction! The one thing that almost stopped us from buying the house was that back side of the house bows (I would guesstimate) about 6-8" from the middle to the two corners. When I first saw it, I thought the house was getting ready to collapse until someone explained that with balloon construction, that's SUPPOSED to happen! Boy didn't I feel stupid!! I'm learning, though!...See Moreamerec vs mr steam vs thermasol steam shower
Comments (98)I don't understand the last post to this thread? Thermasol offers a 5-year replacement warranty on all their controllers. Why would you pay to replace it? Maybe you had it more than 5 years? If so, then it's too bad it failed but how long do you expect it to last? I doubt you could expect a car to last reliably with no problems longer than 5 years, so why expect that of your steam shower. I have a PRO-395 that I installed 14 months ago. It just failed tonight. Not sure if it is the controller board or the heating element, but it stopped producing steam. Called tech support and they are shipping me a new replacement unit tomorrow and paying for the install, all at no cost. I am going to call them tomorrow to talk to them about the fact that it failed so soon. They are supposedly the best and charge a premium for their product. I am curious how they will explain that it failed so soon. Will update this post if they say anything interesting. Update: Spoke to them this morning and they are sending me a new unit, and pay for installation charge. One other thing. Someone in the tread above talked about making their shower with a 10 ft ceiling. Don't do that! That is just dumb, and will affect the experience of a good steam. If you ever want to make your steam shower bigger, do it in the length or width but never in the height. My house has 10 ft. ceilings, but my shower has a 7.5 ft up to an 8 ft. ceiling and that is plenty high enough. The 7.5 ft part is over the bench so the fact that it is lower there makes no difference because you are sitting down....See Moresteam shower ceiling slope
Comments (12)Beautiful steam shower you've got there AnnKathryn. What sort of stone is that? Wisconsin, KERDI is supposed to be approved now for steam rooms, though I don't believe that Schluter allows it to be installed over cement board. You'll want to check with their Technical Services department on that. I prefer to build my steam showers along traditional lines with mortar and metal lath. I've talked about my prejudice with my local Schluter rep and he's got me convinced that KERDI is an alternative with longevity but I'm still timid about hanging a couple hundred pounds of stone from a bonded membrane. He's promised to share with me enough case studies of existing installations to bring me around and I trust him on that. Best of luck, Shaughnn...See MoreSteam shower ceiling
Comments (3)The person in that high end showroom should just for a minute check the specs that cover our industry. In the TCNA handbook, have them check either SR 613 or SR 614. Both are specs for steam rooms (which includes steam showers). The only difference between the two is that 613 is mudset and 614 is thinset. BOTH require a ceiling pitch of 2" per foot. It doesn't necessarily have to go all the way from one side to another. It can peak in the center, and slope off to either side. One way or the other, going by spec, the showroom doesn't know what they're talking about. I can't believe I'm siding with someone from Expo, but the guy's right....See MoreLinda Bui
