Need help for a modern south Florida 10B front yard/pathway

I have tried a lot of plants… killed most of them but I have learned a lot the hard way. Now, with little time and money to spend at the garden I need help to finally have a final versionI can do myself and maintain without killing it.

I am looking to have a modern front yard/path way. I like perennials, flowers, tropical, drought tolerant.

Current situation
I had no luck with vincas, pentas, dipladenia, portulaca, canna, tibouchina…
These others are dying or burnt most of the time: heliconia, peace Lilly, liriope, Purple Heart
I have jatropha but I cannot make them bushy
The only one I have not killed is Mexican petunia and clusia.

What could I paired with Mexican petunias? That need the same watering/sun regimen?

The front of the house face East gets morning sun and the part of the pathway also gets sun from west in the afternoon.

Here are some happy before and sad after photos.
