Not knowing the sq. footage of your space, it's hard to push you in that direction... my tile is just those three walls (can't see the the third) - as the sink is set into that space and stands alone. I think all said and done it was $400 for tile and labor - but the guy just came in to do this job. You'll be bidding out for more tile than just this.... so labor wise, it probably won't add much to your overall labor cost. I purchased at a local tile store - but was just in Lowes last night and they have some really pretty glass accents (like the one I used) -- if that's your thing. It just added a little extra interest. The wall where my towel holder is (to the left of the sink) was just full of water drip stains. You can't get them out. It was either re-paint every couple years or tile. As for your sink choice - I truly believe it comes down to the look you want to achieve. The all white cabinet, with white subway tiles and accent tiles would look pretty awesome. I can't imagine that the fiberboard is any less durable than the pine....

I like bakers racks, but that one just doesn't fit on the too small wall. It doesn't make sense to me. I am also confused where the stain is. I have gotten some pretty disgusting things out of old carpet and I think it would be worth trying. I would try Oxyclean dissolved in hot water, Capture, Oreck or other dry carpet cleaner (this Resolve makes one buy not sure if it is as good), a steam cleaner (you can rent, borrow or buy) or a paste cleaner (sold in a tub and reminded me of the school paste of my early childhood). My mom used to buy that cleaner and swore by it, but I can't think of the name of it right now. I'd think you could get the stain out or at least improved enough to not have to be too worried about it.

Another beautiful house that fell into the gray trap. Get rid of the gray and the house will be fine. Choose one of the colors out of the bigger color scheme of littlebug. The white is too white too. A tone of light beige will accommodate the walls to the brick. A truly dark red or dark green might be nice accent colors, but don't overdo it. Maybe just the door and the swing (which can stay in my opinion, but the pillows are too modern). Besides that: do people not build and buy such houses for the 'dated' look? It is supposed to look like from another era. So do not update, but preserve the look. The rest of the house is beautiful as it is. It doesn't have to be all Tudor style, per se. Have you seen the movie 'pride or prejudice'. That house also has such a wooden railing. In my opinion your door and windows look beautiful too. Some agents of styles tend to become to stringent. So: paint will do a marvelous job on an already lovely house.

"The window in the shower also needs to be waterproofed..." Huge red flag, The shower/bath combo should never have been installed without that window already having been waterproofed. The waterproofing of the window is done behind the tile. It is literally impossible to waterproof the window at this stage, but even installing a vinyl window and minimizing the risk of leaks in this case would be a very complex job requiring a certain skill set. If there is evidence of leakage, you are looking at gutting the enclosure to fix it, which would certainly fix the brown issue.
