Just updated my powder room - pics
Comments (6)Thanks for the compliments! flyleft, The base paint is (Home Depot brand) Behr Interior Satin Enamel; color is "Fall Mood" (PWL-87). It's painted on with a roller (cut in at ceiling and corners with a brush). The next day I put on the glaze coat. I had them mix the top paint to a color that was the same as the base, but 25% lighter. The paint lady recommended 50% or 75% lighter, but I wanted a really subtle effect for the powder room. Anyway, the top paint is mixed 1 part paint, with 4 parts glaze. The glaze is Behr Faux Glaze (No, 748, whatever that means). So I mixed 1 pint of top paint with 1/2 gallon of Glaze (and still had lots left over), then applied the mixture with a rag. You just get the rag wet, wring it a little and then begin pressing it, all bunched up, onto the wall. You can do harder or softer for different effects, and you can do more sparsely or more completely for different effects. I did fairly hard (since it was so light) and pretty completely. Here's an upclose picture of it:...See MoreDo all powder room hardwares' finish have to match with faucet's
Comments (3)I have a vessel sink bathroom with orb faucet, antique chrome tp holder, chrome trim on the toilet, and then an old toilet tank with verdigris and brass. So maybe I am not the person to ask! I think if you are going at all rustic, and the rest of the palette is muted, mixing is fine. You need to be more careful in a modern space or a very formal space or with "near misses", ie things that look like you tried to match but failed....See MoreIs a backsplash necessary in a Powder Room?
Comments (28)Totally Blessed, not Demi, but anaglypta wallpaper is a thick paper that appears to be almost papier machier in thickness but is not, it has relief patterns that form designs, in tiles or other patterns. You paint it (It is very inexpensive) and after you have painted it, you can glaze it so that the relief catches the glaze and appears to be leather, copper, tin, whatever you want it to look like. I had about the same color Demi has in her bathroom in anaglypta wallpaper in my kitchen with a glaze and coppering over it at one time and it was great. In fact, it is still up and I just painted over it with dry sage and no glaze, and it just looks like textured walls. When my kitchen was reddish, I painted it red and put a maple glaze over it and it looked like leather tooling. When people look closely at the walls, they want to know where I got wallpaper that color or what kind of texture are my walls? You can paint over forever and ever and ever....See Morepowder room floor
Comments (7)Do whatever you like in the powder room. Because they are small, you can do wild and crazy things in there. Arcy is correct about the reason they usually all match ... it's easier for the builder and minimizes installation mistakes. It gives a cohesive look to the house, which many people like. In the "dream house" planning with my SO, we came to that conclusion too ... there is no compelling reason to have a different décor in every bathroom, so if the thing ever gets built the only variables will be the layouts. And the towel color. But our powder room (the only one available to guests) will be totally different because I want to have it memorable....See Moredecoenthusiaste
