Marmoleum Click over possibly asbestos-containing vinyl tile?
Comments (3)You may want to talk to your state's Dept. of Natural Resources and ask about their regulations on asbestos removal practices. You might be surprised, depending on where you live, at how seemingly simple it is to comply with asbestos removal regulations, methods of removal and disposal as a homeowner. For a 4x4 area, I would try to remove the existing underlayment and all layers of tile at once and not cut into the potential asbestos containing tile and adhesive. This should be able to be done if there are no walls or built-ins on top of the existing floor. Once you get down to the sub-floor, install a nice, clean piece of underlayment grade underlayment and install your Marmoleum sheet or Click product. Plan it so that the new floor and the existing hardwood are the same height and use a custom made transition or one that Marmoleum produces for use with their floors (yes, respect expansion). This is my quick, knee jerk answer to this flooring dilemma. Follow the Marmoleum instructions to the letter. The sheet goods especially have some special instructions that should not be overlooked or minimized. Cutting the hole for the toilet: drill a hole in the click plank, set your jigsaw in it and cut to and around the traced line you have marked to indicate the size and location of where the toilet will be in relation to the tile....See Moreneed help with powder room floor choice.
Comments (14)Epoxy grouts resist staining much better than conventional grouts. And, while I am not trying to talk you out of small tiles, be aware that you can get attractive non-slip tiles in any size. We just did a re-tile of our master bath that involved replacing 2"X2" tiles with 2'X2' porcelain tiles, and there is no slipping issue at all...even in the shower. And the difference in maintenance is amazing. Another point to remember is that certain materials, including some natural stones, are more porous than porcelain, so sealing them regularly may be helpful to minimize staining in a bathroom....See MorePowder room tile floor input

Comments (9)It is probably fine to put engineered wood in a powder room. I have engineered wood in my kitchen and the occasional drips and drops clean up well. That said, having tile in a bathroom that is contiguous to wood is a perfectly valid design choice. I have wood everywhere except the master bath and the guest bath. My bathroom floors are basket weave marble and I think they actually look better than wood would have especially with other design choices in my bathrooms. Some people do have wood in their bathrooms. I wouldn't be comfortable because I don't know the toilet habits of people who are using them and would like to be able to clean thoroughly if need be. I realize that marble is considered to be higher maintenance but it can still be steam cleaned occasionally and cleaned/sanitized in a way that even engineered wood floors can't be....See MoreUser
