Retail Store-GE Appliances and Quality/Service Issues
Comments (5)>>I am not interested in mixing brands. >>I consider myself an above average shopper/purchaser/consumer. I find these statements somewhat inconsistent. If you are "above average" then you'd be anxious to mix brands. These days no one manufacturer makes the best in class of all appliances and most savvy shoppers including most people on this forum do mix brands. GE does make good MWs (I can't comment personally on the Advantium) but I would stay away from their fridges. Some good manufacturers concentrate on what they do best and don't offer a full line of appliances or else rebadge others to fill out their line. It's hard to say what was up with your salesman - either he gets better commisions for selling other brands or else he's had lots of complaints from his customers about GE. Even on this forum we've had complaints of the form - my brand XXX appliance broke after the warranty ran out and XXX refused to do anything for me for free - I'll never buy brand XXX again. Sadly, appliances these days are not made like they used to be. Why are you unwilling to mix brands - are you concerned they won't match? You should take a look at the Finished Kitchens Blog and you'll see many really nice looking kitchens with mixed brands. As an above average shopper, you ought to research individual appliances and get the best ones that meet your need and budget....See MoreJust back from DW appliance store--KA, Miele, Bosch questions
Comments (59)"Our local store rec'd the Electrolux Q50 series. Though reviewed.com loves this machine I'm having a difficult time finding owner feedback. I was told this was Italian time-tested technology, just now brought to the US. And the orbit clean has just come out of patent, but is also not "new". Any leads on further information?" The Frigidaire FPID/FGID and Electrolux EI24ID/EW24ID (including the 50QS) are brand new and seem to be a redesign from the ground up. Electrolux did not have a great reputation for dishwashers in the past; owners complained of poor washability and reliability. However, it's very possible this new line is great and exactly what they needed. You certainly won't find any user reviews at this point, though. If you buy one, let us know what you think! The only real "proven" dishwashers on the market right now are Maytag and the Euro manufacturers Bosch, Miele, and Asko. Although Maytag is a Whirlpool brand, they still use the previous generation Point Voyager tall tub wash system that works well. Whirlpool has transitioned the rest of their brands including KA to the "Global Wash System" which supposedly is quieter and uses less water but is unproven. GE and Electrolux/Frigidaire just introduced complete redesigns, presumably because their previous offerings weren't so great. Those are also unproven....See MoreOrdering appliances from a large store (Sears in this case)
Comments (28)Our refrigerator died suddenly and we had to get a new one right away. I really hate having to buy something fast but it was either that or live out of an ice chest that my husband pulled out of the garage. We spent 3 days checking out Sears, Lowes, Home Depot, Best Buy, Pacific Sales, The Great Indoors, and a few locally owned appliance stores. ItÂs surprising how all the refrigerators started to look the same after a while but we finally decided on the brand/model we wanted. Now it was down to price. Over the last 1 1/2 years, we have had to replace all our appliances except for our stove. All have lasted us between 15-17 years so I canÂt complain. We bought our new front load washer/dryer from The Great Indoors. The price couldnÂt be beat by any other store and the salesperson was so helpful that when our dishwasher bit the dust a few months later, we went back. Once again he gave us the best price and great/friendly/helpful service. Our third appliance to go was our oven. Again we shopped all over and ended up buying at Pacific Sales. The price was the best and the salesperson was a pleasure to deal with, very professional and courteous. Our oven was installed last week. As for the refrigerator, Pacific Sales didnÂt carry the model we wanted. Although I shop a lot at Best Buy, their salesperson did nothing for us so they were out. The salesperson we encountered at Sears bent over backwards to try and help us. We didnÂt make it easy for him because we were so undecided but he stuck in there. We came back 3 times and he was very patient and understanding. Sears was having a big sale but someone else said that The Great Indoors was having a huge 1 day sale. We ended up getting a better price at The Great Indoors but since the Sears guy was so kind, I wanted to give him one last chance. We let him know that the decision was up to him for the sale. He beat the price and we got free delivery. He really earned the sale and we got a fantastic price. The refrigerator was delivered 2 weeks ago. We started having a problem with the doors squeaking right away. Called service and they came out very fast. They fixed the problem but it reappeared a few days later. Again service came out right away but this time they recommended replacing the refrigerator. Wow, how honest can you get? Most repair places would string you along for quite a while before admitting that you got a bad appliance. We should be getting our new refrigerator next week. Sears gets an A+ for both sales and service....See MoreA generic caution re buying appliances at Big Box stores
Comments (20)In my college days I worked at sears and back then they pointed out that their Kenmore line, or even Craftsman tractors were made by another company BUT to Sears specificatons...which were supposedly superior. That may have been the case then...likely not anymore! I never heard of Sharp making a model microwave for Sears and the same one (looks & features) but with crappier parts for WallyWorld. That sounds like a lot of overhead to make various models of the same microwave to different specifications for different stores...only to get a bad product reputation. I do believe manufacturers have different tiers of products and you will find cheaper product lines in WallyWorld, cheaper and moderate lines in Big Box stores and those plus more expensive models in Appliance Stores...if you can even find an appliance store anymore. I do believe that sometimes a Big Box will have a special version of a product that differs in no meaningful way from another BigBox. Ex BigBoxA sells a dehumidifier that comes with a hose...BigBoxB sells the same dehumidifier but theirs comes with a fragrance filter or something. This is more done to make it look like you are getting a better value than WallyWorld or to cover their butt on proce matches. Just my opinion......See Morekandrewspa
