kitchen layout dilemma island vs peninsula

Alicia

1970’s split level redo. I’m trying to decide between an island and peninsula. If we do a peninsula it would allow for a 36 inch range, and we don’t have to knock down the wall. An island would open up the kitchen to the living room and actually make the living room space more functional, because we would be removing that awkward kitchen corner in front of the fireplace. But I think I’d only be able to have a 30 inch range. The kitchen island would be 42 inches from the window side cabinets and 60 inches from the range. So I think there would be plenty or walk around room. I appreciate any insights and thoughts on functionality.
