Did an awful job overwintering. Plus advice on Nikko Blue.
Comments (3)Is there enough space for the NB to grow to maturity without cramping the other plants? Remember that it can grow 5x5 or more. Your winter protection techniques may be ok. Perhaps what happened is that over time, leaves tend to degrade and move around such that a pile of leaves originally 4' may have shrunk, exposing the ends of the stems to winter temperatures and drying winds. Some people keep excess leaves in a pile for use during mid winter; like for when you notice that leaves have settled. You may also want to make sure that the protection extends several inches away from the longest stem. The more, the better (3-6"?). Prune the stems in late June if you notice one or more stems are much larger than the others. LIR needs winter protection where you live so just try again and check how things are going about once every two weeks or more. If you notice you need to tweak the pile of leaves, you should now have more available from the pile of excess or leftover leaves....See MoreIn shock over *awful* tile job - rendered speechless.Need a voice
Comments (37)lol -meth... I do hope that you at least post reviews on yelp and angieslist. The sad thing is guys like that expect homeowners not to deal with the hassle of going after them. If they lost a couple of half days of work and had a few cases go against them, they may start doing a better job. Since they aren't held accountable, they keep doing stuff like this. Our gc will be finding out how he can't get away with it on our job as soon as we have our written estimates. I know your job is not huge, but then again, going after him would therefore be easier/less complicated too. Maybe you could spearhead going after him and leave dh out of the process. It upsets me to think of the people before me who had shoddy work done by the gc but did not get the word out or make there be consequences for the gc. If they had, then we might not have been duped by them. The sad part is one person I know who used him did not bother to enlighten me about them until after we were screwed by them. If we had been warned, even after our project started, we'd have been better protected. Please do your best to post reviews at the very minimum. You will be doing a real service to the community....See MoreHelp! Need bad paint job advice
Comments (6)Hire a professional painter who takes pride in his work! Believe me, that's a rare breed! We finally found one, but not before enduring the GC's so-called professionals. The guy we hired is re-doing what wasn't done right in the first place. I've learned not to assume just because someone's a painter that they automatically do all the prep that's necessary for a good paint job....See MoreOpinions and advice requested on tile job (Warning: lengthy)
Comments (27)I appreciate those who have stuck with me though this ordeal. I’m happy to report that the shower is done and I hope to never have to revisit this in my lifetime. I’ll let the next owner deal with tearing it out (that would make 3 times) and renovating to their taste. From this experience I’ve learned that my DH thinks I’m much too picky. Last week it got to the point that he was mad at the world and I was unfortunately the one who took the brunt of it. As I feared, he ended up in the hospital with chest pains and sky rocketing BP. I honestly think those 3 days took more out of me than when he had by-pass surgery while we were building this house. Wine is my friends. Grouting happened on Thursday and caulking on Friday. Plumber came Monday along with the painter. Today the shower doors were installed. I’m disappointed that I didn’t get my frameless door, but this is better than a shower curtain and more than half the price of the door I wanted. I’ll probably never take a shower or bath in this BR, so I’m okay with the result. And more importantly, DH is happy with the finished product. So I promised photos. Certainly not Houzz worthy, but it works. DS will be happy to have his BR back...See Moredarbuka
