Counter Depth Fridge vs Standard Depth
Comments (22)I just bought and installed the KitchenAid counter depth french door fridge. Not the supersized one. I chose it for a couple of reasons bur primarily because it was one of the few I could get without a water dispenser in the front door (though there is a discreet one inside the fridge). I hated the fact that the counter depth added about a $1000 to the price tag and worried that I would not feel the aesthetic advantage justified that price difference once I got it since I was trying to be very frugal in my purchases. I was so wrong. I am crazy about this fridge. The bottom freezer holds everything my old full depth freezer did except I can see it all so easy in the lighted space with 3 slide out layers. I can see everything I have when I open the french doors. Nothing hard to get at. Nothing out of sight. The door shelves hold tons of stuff too. I like that the sides are gray....not black...so if some of the side had to show it would blend fairly well with the stainless. Mine will not show as there will be a full panel of cabinet wood covering both sides (cabinets arrive in 2 wks). I'm having an open shelf/cubby above it to hold cookbooks. Buy this unit with confidence....See MoreCounter depth or full depth Fridge based on layout
Comments (3)Making the cabinets deeper on the fridge wall would allow you to put deeper upper cabinets there as well - not a bad thing. I do have other concerns about your layout, however. Where do the doors go? It looks like your cooktop is in a traffic path, if that door in the lower left is used much. So is your wall oven. Switching the peninsula to the other side - extending from the bottom of your drawing instead of the top - helps to direct traffic to the other side of the island - but creates a whole new set of problems, like trapping the fridge in a corner. Where will you keep dishes and glasses? It doesn't look like you have any space near the DW....See MoreCounter Depth fridge family of 6 ?
Comments (23)I have a very well organized SxS CD fridge in my kitchen for my family of 6. I also have a full depth FD in our mudroom. (The freezer is entirely for family storage, the fridge is probably 35% family storage - milks, extra yogurt/apples, perhaps a large Sam's size of meat waiting to be divided or cooked up..., odds and ends stuff that is surplus to what's in the main fridge)... the other 65% supports dh's brewing hobby with his supplies and large kegs. I also have a full size freezer in the garage. It waxes and wanes with how full it is throughout the year. Neither of my extra storage places are far -- probably 15-20 ft from the kitchen. That being said, most of my daily retrieval items are kept in the kitchen. I'm not constantly walking back and forth as I prepare our food. The SxS CD fridge is large enough to support our daily needs/grab & go/leftover storage. The others are more of a cold/frozen pantry. I could NEVER just have the one fridge though. Not sure if I like the 2 flights of steps for retrieval of the surplus... perhaps that is what the kids are for? "hey, we're out of milk - go get one from the downstairs kitchen" ;-)...See MoreDid anyone switch to a counter depth fridge and hate it?
Comments (32)I think we're all pizza lovers and there's no wrong way to eat it or store it. LOL I always have left over pizza, clearly from my picture, and a few frozen pizzas in the freezers for emergencies. My husband and I like different toppings, thin vs thick crust... it's just easier to order separate pizzas and sometimes from separate places. Everyone should enjoy pizza night at our house. The left overs never last longer than a day or two so I don't bother packing it. One thing about the counter depth fridge I forgot to mention. I limit condiments and jars to the door and I'll buy smaller jars for things we don't use up quickly. Yes, it's more expensive but so is tossing a barely used jar past it due date. I have a few friends who have their counter depth fridges filled with condiments and jars and they complain it's too small and they have no space for food....See MoreCelery.
