We just installed our kitchen aid counter depth frige. It does not have counters next to it but rather pantry style cabinetry (which are standard depth). It looks like it sticks out about an inch or slightly less than I want it too (not the doors or the handles but the body of the frige). Once the doors of the cabinets are installed it shouldn't be as noticeable. My cabinet guy did recomend to notch out some of the sheetrock in the back of the frige where the plug is (because the stiff cords are preventing the fridge from going all the way back) and it should fit even better. The kitchen aid frige we have is model KFCS22EVMSO.

I found a GE Cafe in town. It's a full depth model but was good to see in person. I don't like it. It has rounded corners and I think it would look out of place in my kitchen because all my KA has very square lines. Also not keen on the handle style with the angled ends. It was OK inside, I just think it would look out of place in my kitchen. I'm not sure how it has extra space with added dispenser. I really wish it came without it, but with its 17.5 cu ft of fridge, I'm thinking about compromising. It has KA's new printshield finish! I'm going to drive the 350 MI this weekend or next to see one that I found at sears there. I'm guessing it's made by LG, which I wasn't keen on before. Also, I'm leery of Sears since they look like they're going out of business and I wonder if they'll be able to warranty products. But it's similar capacity, much less expensive, and if I'm already compromising on door dispenser, at least this one blends in better since it's silver color instead of black. Lowes is giving us a refund on the frigid aire and picking it up on Friday. They were very helpful and understanding. However, until I find a replacement, I'll have to walk a flight of stairs to use fridge in our MIL apartment, and will only have husband's office mini fridge (making him bring it home) in our main kitchen. I need to figure this out quickly. The KA will be in stock with Sears on March 21. I don't know about the Kenmore. I was told by an appliance store in the other town that the KA can't be shipped until April. My other KA appliances were back ordered almost 2 months so that's tough as well.

We're a family of five. We eat lots of produce and I cook at least once a day. I bought a CD Electrolux all fridge a few years ago and don't regret it. The one thing it doesn't fit well is a box of those huge 16" take-and-bake pizzas. I have to remove them from the box or clear a shelf that doesn't have a door shelf across from it when closed. My produce may overflow the available space in my drawer for a day or two, but that's not really an issue. I really love that it doesn't intrude on my aisle because the fridge location in this house is stupid. FWIW, my fancy Gaggenau oven doesn't fit those pizzas, either. I have to cut them in half. I wouldn't trade my oven for one that did. It's my precious.

We have both and in my experience all space is not equal. Try this experiment, take out your shelves mark the back 20% with a piece of electrical tape. Next get a magnetic whiteboard and marker for the front of your fridge. For a couple of weeks make an effort to mark whether the things you get out of your fridge come from behind the mark or from in front of the mark. What you are likely to find is that you don't utilize the back 20% of your fridge very much. Most of the things you reach for with any sort of regularity stay in the front 80%. For most people, the back 20% is for things that expired 6 months ago and you haven't gotten around to tossing out yet. I suspect most families who believe they need the capacity of a deeper fridge could adopt to counter depth with little actual disruption to their daily life, regardless of the number of people in the house. Having said that, in my opinion, the biggest benefit of a counter depth refrigerator is increasing the walkway. In many kitchens that allows for larger islands, which are often space that is better utilized, or creates better flow in the kitchen. In the design that was originally posted, I don't see the counter depth refrigerator actually adding that much utility to the space.
