counter depth fridge at end of cabinet run?
Comments (7)Our refrigerator is on the end of a run in a doorway as well. But, since we have a narrow aisle at that point and our refrigerator is on an outside wall (so no recessing), we went with a counter-depth to save aisle space. As to how to recess into the wall, others have described it pretty well. What isn't mentioned is that some people recess their refrigerator not only into the wall, but into the room behind it. If you need to recess your refrigerator more than 3" or 4", you will need to recess into the next room. However, even those 3" or 4" can help if you have a standard depth refrigerator! Since CD refrigerators are not totally counter-depth, they will stick out several inches beyond the surrounding counters...up to 3" or 4" for the doors and another 2" or so for the handles (depending on the refrigerator). The doors must stick out past the counters to open fully. Because of this, we also built our refrigerator in with end panels (end panels are only as deep as the distance b/w the back wall and the front of the refrigerator carcass/box). Note that a full depth end panel will not make a difference in a "dark corner" b/c the refrigerator will be just as deep so will still create the "dark corner". I.e., whether you have full or partial depth end panels the effect will be the same b/c the refrigerator will be even deeper. One more comment...how deep is the wall next to your refrigerator? If it's deeper than 24" or 25" you will need some filler b/w the refrigerator & the wall...the deeper the wall, the more filler will be needed. If it's no more than 24" or so, you shouldn't need any filler unless there's door trim...then you will probably need filler to clear the door trim....See MorePlease help selecting Dual Fuel range and Counter Depth Fridge
Comments (9)Thanks for your reply. We are in Canada, Ontario, and our prices are significantly higher than the US prices. There is very little difference between Benchmark and 800 series range - Benchmark has 20,000 BTU middle burner vs 18,000 BTU for 800 series. Benchmark has one telescopic rack - 800 series does not have it. Price difference is about $300. Best deal I found for Bosch fridge in Canada is $3300 (this is with Bosch rebate going on) and I can get ELUX for $2200 + 3 year part warranty from Electrolux thrown in. I would prefer Bosch even though it's smaller than Electrolux, but the price difference is huge, Bosch is almost $1000 more. Another dilemma is how interchangeable these fridges are. The cabinets will be custom made, and the fridge will be in the wall of cabinets. Bosch / JA are 72" high, and Elux is about 70" high. I already accepted the idea that these fridges will not last more than 7-8 years, and then I will need a new fridge to place in the same opening. Would you buy extended warranty with any of those appliances? Is it worth it? Thanks...See MoreCounter-depth Fridge with the most space?
Comments (28)Yes, very true. Smudge resistance would have been great. Fortunately, I live alone, so I don't anticipate too many finger prints since I will be using the handles. But I did notice the plethora of fingerprints on the floor model and it did make me think twice. But as as I could tell, fingerprints were a problem with most of the units (some more than others, this LG being among the worst...or maybe people just like to touch this one :)), with Frigidaire being the only one that was advertised as smudgeproof. Also, with smudgeproof finishes, I have heard that the finish itself can get damaged/peel over time. I just hope it's not too hard to wipe the stains off. If it was my choice, I would have gotten a white kitchen. Unfortunately, the builder put in stainless appliances as standard....See MoreQuestion for those with counter depth fridges
Comments (43)Just had a 30" counterdepth fridge delivered this weekend and I love it! It seems to hold as much stuff as my old wider, but shorter, fridge. I was always throwing food out because I lost sight of what was tucked in back in old fridge. The shallower depth makes everything visible and easy to grab. I love the minimalist quality of this fridge as well. No heavy plastic and bulky bins taking up space. Old freezer was a pain to dig threw to find whatever. I threw out food that was buried under in the freezer deep wire basket. I am pleased as punch with the way this freezer is organized with drawers. So easy for retrieval. Holds plenty for us. Love it, love it, love it! Here are some pick...See Morenanelle_gw (usda 9/Sunset 14)
