I agree with all of the above - especially the three seating areas right on top of each other and keeping the DW out of the Prep Zone - wherever the Prep Zone is located. In addition, it looks to me like the prep sink and other items are poorly placed - they're not very useful where they are. Since you have so much wall space, I would get the Cleanup Zone off the island! The way it is now, your dirty dishes are front & center for all to see! Additionally, anyone sitting at the island will have dirty dishes "in their face". Most of the time spent working in the Kitchen is spent prepping, so I would put the Prep Zone in the island - with a secondary one on the perimeter (using the cleanup sink as the water source). Kitchen work studies show: 70% or more time spent in the Kitchen is spent prepping 20% or less is spent cleaning up - and that includes not just sink work (hand washing a few items & loading the DW), but also non-sink work such as unloading the DW, clearing the counters & table, wiping down the counters & table 10% is spent cooking - stirring, adding ingredients, watching food cook Based on the above, it makes the most sense to have the Prep Zone in the island, not the Cleanup Zone! . A much better layout would be to... (1) Put the Prep Zone in the island with the prep sink and trash pullout (2) Put the Cleanup Zone on the perimeter (3) Bring the refrigerator, at least, closer to the dining area(s), but keep it and the freezer on the perimeter (4) Possibly, locate the refrigerator & freezers where you might have some "wiggle room". I suspect that All-Refrigerators & All-Freezers are going to be standardizing on two or three sizes, most likely: 24", 36", and, possibly, 30". I would plan for these sizes. Something like this: . Your home is gorgeous! I spent a year renovating a 1939 petite colonial (1700 sf). In my case, I had to add a kitchen as the old one was tiny had badly renovated in the 1990s. A few workflow tips in your newer post with the kitchen. I'd put the prep sink at the range end of your island, instead of at the dining room entrance end. Think about it -- you chop, then have to carry the food to the range. Please rethink that desk in your kitchen. I've had "work/message centers" as built-ins in previous homes, but here in my new old house, I'm using a piece of furniture -- a drop-front secretary where I can close up the mess when guests arrive, but sit there and work (printer in the bottom). You can put the secretary in any room. Where your desk is located, it's not a drop station for bringing in the mail, schoolbooks, etc. For aesthetics, please try to make the kitchen fit the spirit of the house. White cabinets would likely fit it better than stained wood. Consider having at least a few glass-front upper cabinets. If you turned that desk space into storage, you wouldn't need to line the walls with upper cabinets. It's amazing what you can fit into a "hutch" look that would fit the aesthetics of your home. I had hutches flanking my farmsink in my previous home. One for pantry items, the other for dishes. My current 1939 home new renovation -- hutches -- the one of the left of my paneled fridge is for dishes and the one one the right side is filled with food items stored in canisters and containers. My kitchen is only 12x12 as the dimensions are in keeping with the original room sizes. The dining room is 12x12 and the living room is 12 x 21.

As a buyer that one cabinet on the window wall would both bug me aesthetically and scream "not enough storage so we crammed cabinets everywhere we could" which makes the space issue super obvious. Yes, it is a small kitchen and storage is going to be a concern, but you want buyers to be thinking 'oh, what a lovey space!' rather than 'but where would I put my X?' when they are looking at it. The space issue is for them to figure out after they buy it if they don't notice before. It also visually closes in the space and makes it feel smaller. If you feel like you must have some kind of storage there I'd go with shallow open shelving - it seems like a nice place for a hot drink station (tea, coffee) potentially, so you could have shelves just deep enough for mugs and canisters of tea/sugar/etc. Somethig like that which provides storage but looks like things are just there because it's nice to have them accessible, not because there is no where else for them to go. (When I've had smaller kitchens I usually get creative with storage in adjacent rooms. Unless they snoop, no one can tell that your nice server cabinet in the dining room has less-used pots and pans or canned goods in it instead of tablecloths and placemats.)

Little update - after talking this over with DH and consulting a stucco guy, we are leaning away from plans that involve moving doors or windows in ways that would require patching of the stucco. Making a patch blend in will be difficult (our stucco is natural and we don't want to paint it), and overall it seems like it will probably be more expensive than it's worth. However, the window on the back could be eliminated without stucco repair because it is under a portico (where I believe the original back door was) and the entire portico area is trimmed in wood. We could easily seal that off and use the area on the exterior for floating shelves, etc., plus it gives me a lot more options inside. We'd lose light, but that's easy to remedy by expanding the current door to a slider and/or expanding the side window. Here are two new ideas with all of that in mind: Island plan (we'd lose the back window, but DH prefers this, as he likes to sit at the island and chat with me while I cook): Galley-esque plan (keeps the back window and I like the separation of mudroom/laundry and kitchen here, but not sure I want to eliminate the possibility of kitchen seating):
