carolb, soundtracks were some of my earliest musical memories too. South Pacific (I'm gonna wash that man right out of my hair...), The Student Prince (Drink! Drink! Let the toast start...). Going through my mom's things, found a letter she had written to her mom relating how that morning I'd indignantly scolded "whoever didn't put the Mary Poppins record back in its dust-sleeve!". I would have been barely four already quite protective of my music :-)

We had the Mary Poppins album too and listened often enough to learn all the songs by heart 😀

I love hearing everyone's stories! I can't remember a time when I didn't love music. Though I didn't grow up in a particularly musical household, my mother always had a pop/top 40 station on in her car, while my father always (and only!) played classical music in his. And I went through the typical rebellious teen years playing rock music they didn't like (Pink Floyd The Wall comes to mind as one album I played repeatedly). I suppose that's why today I still have a very varied appreciation for all different kinds of music. My contributions to this post aren't songs that bring me back to childhood but just generally songs that I like about children and/or parents.

Oh my - I love Baby Mine! It's from Dumbo - the scene where his mother is in a cage, and always a tearjerker for me!
