Oversized Patio Door Options

Hi, I recently moved into a new townhouse in southern California that has an old aluminum two-panel sliding patio door that is oversized (118"X80") and I am having a truly hard time finding a replacement. Unfortunately, I am not only restrained by the large size but also the color: it needs to be a dark bronze or espresso color externally and internally. The only option I have found so far is La Cantina, which is not only expensive to buy but to install, and not worth the expense for a place that isn't a house. I'm restrited by size, color, and panel because of the HOA.

Has anyone had success with finding a dark interior large two-panel sliding patio door? Thanks in advance!

Any real lumberyard, real window store or professional window dealer has plenty of sources as that is not usual at all. But quality will cost and if you think LaCantina is expensive, not sure you will end up with quality.

$25k for two patio doors (96"X80") and (118"X80") is outside my budget, specially for a condo/townhouse. I have tried almost 10 different vendors and so far the only recommendation has been La Cantina. It seems pretty surreal that there are no other options out there.

Nope, no shade. In fact, I had been throwing around some ideas to give us some shade on our deck up above... The trees are back far enough not to give us any shade. I could take a different photo, just to show you the back yard...give you an idea of where the trees are in relation to the house....I'm sure I have some somewhere, but would take less time to just take one! =) The house is all brick, and that brick gets VERY HOT....and stays hot for quite some time after the sun goes down. I swear you could fry an egg on it.... so I'd love to shade the deck with something..... but at the same time.... the east side of the deck faces our horse pasture, where I like to sit and watch the horses.... so I had almost considered some sort of overhang as opposed to plantings. But by then, you practically have a porch! My husband is in construction by trade....so he could handle it. Wood as patio material...not sure. One thing I would like to try to do if possible, is keep it open enough down there to back something up to if need be. If we ever bring furniture in or out, it's convenient to just back a truck (or trailer with a lawn tractor or something) up to that door to move things around). I think I'd like to work with the ground we have, rather than put in another deck down below...if that's kind of what you're thinking? I see so much potential with our back yard...it's just a matter of gathering the ideas, and doing it! But, I figure, I have the winter to figure that out...and plan some goals for next year. Angie

I had similar size drapes made for my MBR and used JCP made-to-measure drapes. They not only made the length I wanted, but also the panel width I needed.. You'll need to call your local JCP to see if they still offer the option but, from experience, I've found it's best to walk in and talk to someone face to face. I always get vague answers over the phone.

I have a patio door with a single sidelight the same width as one of the patio doors. It looks like a 3 panel setup but only two of the doors open. I think they are 36" wide but would have to double check. So a bit wider that your existing opening. Looks similar to the door in the picture but i have two doors that open.

Arcadia, Western, Eurowall to name a few are all companies I know are available on the west coast and will make those sizes.

Not sure which La Cantina product you have looked at but if it is a folding system, they can be expensive. My recommendation because of your budget constraints would be what the industry calls a 10068 OXXO door (if your HOA will let you switch to a four panel door). Many manufacturers undersize so 118" as opposed to 120" should be available. Other than color, you haven't told us what material you are looking for (aluminum or vinyl)?

I believe Milgard makes a two panel 10068 door with IG.

Unfortunately, the HOA is very strict about two panels only. The La Cantina options were sliding patio doors in XO configuration. What really increased the price were the installation costs since it's considered to be "new construction" rather than a retrofit. I am only looking for retrofit options that are OX and internal/external expresso color. Since I'm in CA, I don't think I'm allowed to do simple aluminum. I recently purchased fiberglass windows, so the preference is fiberglass but I wouldn't mind thermally improved aluminum or vinyl.

Not sure if it would help, but I can't say that I've ever run into a HOA or COA that can restrict the interior color. Typically their control governs only the exterior (color, configuration number of panels, etc). Regulating the interior color would be like regulating the color of your carpet or painted walls... Have you read that document to verify?

The HOA does not restrict interior colors but all the windows are fiberglass espresso (interior and exterior) and we would like the patio doors to match.
