Help! Paint debacle: Ex White trim; Alabaster cabinets and doors...

My painters painted all the trim in my great room (kitchen, dining, LR), bath/laundry, and office in Ex White. They painted the new (not yet hung) interior doors for this are in Alabaster. However, they were to paint the trim AND doors SW Alabaster to match the new base cabinets in kitchen area. FYI: the great room walls are: Useful Gray and Nuance. Bathroom walls: Tradewind. Office walls: Contented. The whole area has lt. maple flooring. The SW Ex White trim paint can was from the new bedroom - they simply picked up the wrong can. Should I have them repaint the trim Alabaster (as planned) to match the new kitchen cabinets? Should I have them repaint the doors in Ex White to match all this trim? Or should I leave the trim Ex White and the doors Alabaster to repeat the color since the cabinets are Alabaster? How the open concept great room looks is my biggest concern. Thanks!

Including pics for you to compare Alabaster painted base cabinets and doors. Thanks. (Tried 3 times to download pictures - but no luck - sorry.)

Thank you everyone for your input and time! It helped me decide to have painters paint the trim the color they were contracted to do. I've tried desperately to like the Extra White trim in our open concept area. Bottom line: I wouldn't choose it (Ex White) for the trim over the Alabaster with the wall colors I chose. Thanks, again!

These are from the Yellow Hue Family. It depends upon how light + how colourful, or near to neutral you wish to go + what your inherent lighting can best support? If you have lower levels of light, slightly more colourful whites may feel less gloomy than the most neutral types of whites. Extra White is from the Green-Yellow Hue Family. Chantilly Lace is a very near neutral white from the Green-Yellow Hue Family.

What was the reason for the white you chose for the cabinets?It will also look yellow if you do not address the lighting that should all be LED 4000K. IMO the best choice is to use the cabinet white for the trim since mixing whites is tricky and can look very good or very bad si I like the same to avoid the mistake. SW syas Eider White with your wall color so maybe do all the trim and the cabinets in that if possible but a tleast do the trim and doors

@tugby It will look like primer, if youre gonna leave the wall bare. But when you hang art pieces on the wall that's a different story. It will actually make furniture and accessories pop! So it all depends on your preference. Im back to square one on colors again. omg! Haha! Pure white looks it can tie everything together. Look at pictures haha! Its either Pure White, Simply White, White Dove, or Alabaster. Snowbound is another beautiful color however I heard its not a good whole house paint color.

Did you look at White Dove? It's another popular BM white. It has a hint of gray under some lighting conditions, but that tones down the yellow (yet it's still considered a warm white), so maybe . . . ? You've already tried the others I would have suggested. If you're using Advance, be aware that the semi-gloss version of this is much shinier than semi-gloss in other BM product lines. The satin is shiny enough. I just had trim painted in it myself. Also, what are you looking at against your samples? Be careful not to be influenced by what is already there that you're going to be painting over. If you have any copier paper around, surround your samples with it so you get a clearer picture. If you're painting sample boards, use a white border. If you're painting on a wall, prime around the sample to get rid of the existing color.

I have had issues like that. One time it wouldn’t let me post a pic with words attached. Sometimes it’s easier to take fresh picture with the app than getting one out of my photos. I have had luck by opening and closing a few Times as I go along to get the pictures to show up.

I wouldn't worry about it. Extra White and Alabaster are both pretty neutral and perfectly good colors for trim and doors. My experience is that they go with pretty much everything. Unless there's trim in EW & Alabaster butting up against each other, I don't think anyone will notice.

I agree… if they touch it will be noticeable. Of course lighting of the room will also make a difference. Sometimes even the same color will look different depending on lighting. Since it’s their mistake, shouldn’t they fix it without further cost? If that’s the case, I’d follow your original plan. You will stress less about that. You could also paint a piece of cardboard and carry it around and see what it looks like if you want to compare your other options.

Chris & Carrie B.: Yes, the EW base trim IS up against the end of the Alabaster cabinet. And a EW trimmed window is 6 in. away from Alabaster cab end. Thanks!

My EW trim also up agains my cabinets and wall paint. No problem at all. I wouldn't like it if one piece of *trim* was up against a piece of *trim* in another white, but one thing painted one kind of white and another thing painted another white is totally fine as long as the two whites don't class, and EW and Alabaster look lovely together.

They screwed up and should repaint in the correct color. This is their problem, not yours. You’re paying them- make them do it right. You shouldn’t compromise because of their mistake.

I once came home to find the painters had done my master bedroom in a truly horrible orange brown rather than the pale blue gray I’d specified by name and #… they got one digit wrong, didn’t look at name. They repainted.
