Paint Exterior Design Dilemma

Ranch house brick staining/siding colours

Hi all

We are updating our ranch house below. The neighbourhood is in transition and lots of houses are either being redone in farmhouse or modern exteriors. Our interior leans towards farmhouse style. We are replacing all of our windows to black and replacing the bay window with a "flattened" black framed window, also getting a black 3/4 window single front door with a side light on the right side (photo attached, but a single door) and replacing the garage doors to black with stockton windows.

I'm wondering what colour we should stain the brick? We love the white and black farmhouse style but I'm worried it will look odd since we don't have a lot of siding and most white farmhouses I've seen are mostly siding. All of the brick is load bearing so it can't be removed. I was thinking maybe staining the brick and doing a board and batten siding on the "peak"? We are going to be removing the shutters since they are in bad shape but should we replace them or have no shutters? What colours of brick stain, siding, and trim do you think would look nice?

#2 is more of a ranch, not bungalow. What's the first pic?

Nice house and yard. Consider choosing a dark bold brown for the fascia/soffit (and, perhaps, around your bold red door) but leave all the window trim white. A lighter brown for the siding you're adding would work well. https://www.pellabranch.com/blog/global-blogs/black-window-frames/ If the additional work to be done is changing out the windows, replace the large ?fixed? window with a pair that open and consider choosing black frames. You could then consider choosing a dark bold brown for window trim as well.

Like Patricia, its the sea of asphalt that stops my eye. Then the jumbled plantings keep me from exploring further. The brick is not the issue, so you can save a lot of money right there. Tackle the real problems first. Have you considered taking your home in an Asian direction? Lighting could provide an interesting look for you.

First remove the shutters , you need a walkway from the street to the front door . I like gray/ green with brick and this is a good example of how good it looks. If you can do like this and paint the trim the same . You need a MCM door could be a color other han the siding or the same. Then it’s landscaping that will bring this house to life . I don’t know how far down the MCM rabbit hole you want to go but this is a favorite of mine

have you decided what you'd like the final result to be? do you like the red brick and the vintage ranch style or would you like to modernize it? Now would be the time. As for the red brick, there are products like Romabio w/very little maintenance upkeep. their masonry paint is guaranteed for 20 years. and it's natural, a mineral product. If you took away the metal posts, added the cedar, painted the brick white, and did something like this, it would look amazing brick painted a deep warm charcoal, added wood elements and a bit more modern redos. Since this is your one chance for a full makeover, decide what it is you want first

Its a ranch, not a bungalow, and it is a very nice looking ranch house. I wouldnt do a thing with the brick. It will go with your black windows, etc just fine. I would have a front door painted in a bright color (not the blue you have now). Spend your money on landscaping, rather than on staining brick, that doesnt need to be stained. You do need a lot of new landscaping. As for shutters, you may not need them, but, if you do, please repaint them. The white is not doing the look of the house much. Take the shutters off, and then look at the house for a while without them, and see how you like it without any.
