Thank-you! The idea is great. Nothing new, and mostly daily dinners, but definitely sets the mood. The bundt pan chicken had me scratching my head, though, wondering why someone would sacrifice a baking pan to chicken, 'till I got to the photo at the bottom, and realized it was for ”beer can” chicken. Very clever! except, they seal the hole in the tube with foil. When it was popular, I went through two ceramic chicken roaters of the sort. they were awesome, with the ”can” well in the center for the liquid. Both broke way too soon due to thermal shock. Now I just use my steam oven, but the bundt isn't about to crack! The timing on chicken is too specific for the Seder service. I'm heartened, at least, from reviewing the list. I know I havee a couple of months, but it's so hard not to have any kind of plan.

I'm allergic to fish (that's why I said no), and it's gotten worse in the last ten years. Even if I wanted to serve salmon, the fumes of it cooking could make me barf. ;) I get why you might want to serve a nice fish where you can have a ”special” non-meat meal, but go dairy or meat to suit the day.

Short ribs is a very interesting idea if I can get them. That should be a lot easier than good lamb. I won't have to make this an actually kosher meal, but being Pesach, it still has to be more kosher than ordinary (no lasagna). That gives me a choice of several good butchers. I could never make short ribs for the mobs (score one!), they're just a bit decadent (“special”) and will tolerate the uncertain timing. I think that's a plan!

That Romesco sounds really good! Much more wow than the norm, and already thickened with matzah. I'm not sure about it with asparagus, but it should work well with something, and not interfere with the shortribs. And plenty of time to source some ingredients, so I'm really glad I asked now, and you were here to point me that way.

I can definitely plan a feast for 10 or fewer around these two things. Thank-you!

Well the only holiday I'm thinking of is Valentines Day. And that's always a big to do around here. No matter what the food is it will be heart shaped, that's all I know.

I am no help regarding a seder meal. The one I was invited to was......well awful.

If roasted chicken and veg are acceptable(i am not sure about the religious dietary restrictions sorry) I would do that. Chicken with croutons or roasted potatoes, or rice. And some veg.

I came across some very small cuts of brisket a few times,maybe you can find one too. It obviously wasn't a whole brisket but me and SO had enough for a couple days and some for the freezer. A chicken and a small brisket and some lovely easy sides sound perfect for 10.

Ha, like Amylou I was wondering what the upcoming holiday was! My first thought led me to find that groundhogs are supposedly delicious. Reading through a tutorial on how to skin snd clean, not sure it’s for me.

But for the Spring holiday, in our case Easter, regardless of whether I’m hosting or guesting, chances are the food will lean Greek. Leg of lamb, grilled if I’m the cook, a casserole like pastitsio or moussaka, lemon-garlic potatoes, that sort of thing. But I should start looking through Dimitra’s blog and others to see if anything new and interesting catches my eye, esp on the veggie front.

LOL on the grounghogs. Poor Phil! most definitely not kosher. I did mean Easter and Passover, but Valentine’s works too! It's usually a two person deal, so different considerations. I'm trying to remember if I've seen heart-shaped food other than meatloaf or cookies/cake. Amylou, does stew (boeuf bourgignon) in a heartshaped pot count?

YES!

Bonus points if you serve it in a heart shaped bowl or on a heart shaped plate!

Here's a pizza I made one Valentines day!

I've also made bread in a heart mold and used it to make a heart shaped patty melt. To go with it, I punched out heart shapes from slices of potatoes and fried them.....

I've made heart shaped biscuits and cornbread, I've put thing like mac and cheese and mashed potatoes into cookie cutters to make them into a heart shape on the plate(take THAT ring mold!)

Heart shaped chicken pot pies, heart shaped cakes and cupcakes of course, and numerous other things thay I simply bake in one of my MANY heart shaped baking dishes. I made a heart shaped pecan pie for SO for Thanksgiving........endless ideas here.

Of course it helps to have the obnoxiously yet delightfully large collection of heart paraphernalia that I do....

Just an FYI. Many libraries will loan out different shaped cake pans!
