Becca - There are so many plants you could put in a big pot there! Here is a pic of a hibiscus that I love in its' pot. the other thought I had was to spend your money on a beautiful glazed pot and put an ordinary palm or whatever in it with some annuals in the bottom. I have a tea olive in my entry way because I love the fragrance but it's not a lovely thing to look at! Hope this helps, Hester

I love the high ceiling, it is a very dramatic space and I think a large chandelier/pendant light over the sofa/coffee table area would look great. I don't see an existing electric junction box in the ceiling in the photo. If you wanted to have one installed in the ceiling, it might be a costly project since they would run the wiring behind the sheet rock on the ceiling and need to install a switch somewhere in the wall. In addition, if you have popcorn ceilings (can't really tell from the image) and they need to cut away at parts of the ceiling to install the electrics, you will never get an exact match of the ceiling texture and you would probably need to have the entire ceiling painted. An easier and cheaper route would be to go with exposed conduits, which is probably not the look you want since it's not an industrial space - also whether or not this violates construction code in your area.

I like the idea of leaving the floor space open as decoenthusiaste suggested. If you are looking for a quick easy solution try Ikea trones. They come in white or black and are an inexpensive solution. they also come in black, You could put a mirror above 1 or 2, They are for shoe storage but they can be used to store other items as well.

There are plenty of neutral rugs out there that might work well in your space. We agree, the current rug might be too small for your space, so definitely try it in the entryway and see if you can get a bigger one for the seating area. Here are some ideas from a few designs of ours.
