Rules for runners in L-shaped laundry room

Is there a designer who can guide me on the rules for placing runners in a tight space? We have an L-shaped laundry room. The longest run goes from the door to the garage to the kitchen. The short run has a washer and dryer on one side and a sink on the other. It also leads to a small half bath. I've attached a diagram.

Question: I'd like to have a runner for both sides -- one in front of the washer and dryer and another for the heavy traffic entering the house. If you use two runners, should they be the same pattern?
