Fridge - GE Monogram vs KitchenAid vs Subzero
Comments (38)Maggie, nine years ago I bought the totally untested Thermador Freedom Series Columns. I picked them over the SubZero because they were the first to lift the interior and get rid of the ventilation panel overhead -- something I really hated about the old built-ins, but it also meant the bottom drawer wasn't nearly on the ground and in the freezer the ice was at a convenient height (had two kids in marching band -- we went through at least 2-3 gallons of ice every day during marcing season. Nine trouble free years later, I have no hesitation recommending Thermador (which includes Bosch, Miele and Gaggenau). And I got one of the first ones -- before the bugs were worked out. SubZero is the other top name for full size built in refrigeration with KA being a not to distant 2nd (but chek the opening of the drawers - required a more than 90 deggree open door back then - don't know if it's better now). For undercounter, it's SubZero, Perlick and maybe Uline....See MoreWhich refrigerator KitchenAid or GE Cafe?
Comments (17)bj, i just posted on another thread...can't remember what it was called, but I talked about my Kitchenaid....piece of crud! I'm not happy w/ it at all. I bought the counterdepth - 36" wide - & french door. I do not like the FD's....at all. When I open them, they do not feel like they've been sealed well after closing. I can pretty much open them w/ my baby finger without any resistance! That makes me feel it's not very economically friendly! Even tho, every time I close them, I have to almost body slam them to make sure they are really closed & not a little bit opened. I would not recommend a FD fridge to anyone! I also think the inside is cheaply made. The drawers aren't on a track or anything so they kind of wobble when opening & closing. Not that it really matters, but it just seems to be cheaply made. I'm actually going back to the store I bought it from today to tell them I hate this fridge!!! I've had it about 2 months so probably not much we can do about it, but I just don't care for it. Oh well, if the french doors are the worst thing & everything else holds together well, I guess it'll be ok. We'll see tho. Good luck, it doesn't seem like there are many fridges out there unless you spend around $6K....See More36" Counter-depth Fridge: KitchenAid or GE Cafe or other?
Comments (9)I am getting rid of a GE Cafe counter depth fridge in this size. I love the way it looks, but make sure that whatever you get has TWO cooling controls. Mine is going on 8 years old and it only has one cooling control, which means the cold air from the freezer is pumped into the fridge and any veggies will freeze if they are too close to the back of the fridge. The only safe place for a salad is in the door. I've turned the temp up in the fridge to 39F and still ... frozen celery, carrots, etc. The GE stainless steel is easy to clean and it stays clean looking. I'd go with the Bosch if it were me, love the look of those in the showrooms but I don't love their standard depth options (you have to get ice/water in the door, which I do not want). So, if the GE now has two separate cooling zones then I would get GE again. Aside from destroying produce I do love it, it's super pretty and the ice maker was a strong performer....See MoreJenn Air vs Kitchen Aid vs GE Cafe Oven
Comments (5)I redid my kitchen 2 years ago and after a ton of research, ended up with Kitchen Aid 30” electric convection wall ovens. I narrowed it down to Kitchen Aid (sister of JennAir) or Bosch and KA had the better warranty. I wanted a workhorse that wasn’t a smart or steam oven and took a poll of all the people I know who really bake a lot and both Kitchen Aid and GE electric wall ovens were the favorites(many in addition to a high end range like Wolf). So far, my ovens have been fantastic—even heat and quiet enough that my husband accidentally left the oven on. They do take about 15-20 minutes to preheat to 400 degrees. I haven’t had any chipping issues but I never use self clean (several appliance guys have independently told me not to, regardless of brand, because you have too high a chance of frying the motherboard). FWIW, I am in the Midwest and have had a DCS gas oven and GE electric oven in the past....See Moreroarah
