Bathroom and bedroom destruction complete! Need ideas :)

I'm new to this forum and everyone here sounds so helpful and sweet! The sheetrock finished yesterday! I'm so excited and equally stressed out. Where to start? I guess in the bathroom. Things that are picked out and already ordered are Daria Vanity in espresso and matching linen tower. Swanstone crystal white walls for the shower and surrounding the tub on the other side of the room. I want to buy formica laminate countertop so hubby can put that on the vanity. Um... What would be pretty? Open to all suggestions! Oh! my floors are Arnica lake oak by lifeproof. I will post pictures when I can of at least the website pics up here when I figure out how. :) Right now I have to go rip off wooden siding on this house. She was built in 1902 and she's pretty cool old girl! I'm sure I need to add more here but I don't know what ya'll need to know to help me with this? The bathroom is 100 sq feet and I'm afraid things are going too dark. *cringe* The fixtures are all brushed nickel.

Adding on... The matching vanity is a big 60 inch fella.

Since the countertop is installed after all the tile and vanity are in place, you could think about it more later. You shouldn't be getting anything fabricated until the vanity is in either. Bring home some samples and decide once everything else is in place. If you're still stuck at that time, post again with pictures of the space and the samples you're trying to choose between.

Lots happening now :) What would be a good laminate to go on the vanity? Has to be a laminate for our budget. I was going to go with calcutta marble from wilsonart but It might be too much happening and look awful with the swanstone surround color that is around the tub and in the shower. Any and all suggestions welcome. I did get a few samples of paint. I have no clue what I'm doing but I'm guessing navajo white might go ok in here? I'm getting ahead of myself though, countertops first! We are daily visitors to home depot and lowes. I think they mostly carry Formica and Wilsonart. All decorating tips welcome as well :) Much love! Ps You can't hurt my feelings by being blunt about this stuff either. I'm the kinda girl where I wanna hear the truth instead of you telling me what you think I wanna hear. And as usual I'm talking too much so I'll shut up and wait. But I'm so excited!!!!!! ~Angela

We have a similar set up in that our master bed/bath are on one side of the stairs and run front to back. We went with a 36x48" shower and a 36" wide vanity (only 18" deep, though). Our options were to have a walk in closet that would eliminate the chance to have a window to the backyard or use a wall of wardrobes. We went with the wardrobes. I linked to our results below. Wardrobes like these may help get you plenty of clothes storage without taking as much space as a full closet (you don't have the 4" thick wall of a closet, just the door thickness of the wardrobe). It's also a way to really maximize storage since there are no dead zones in the cabinetry. If it would help to see the floor plan for our master bed/bath let me know. Our house is 36' wide and 24' deep with the center stairs about 1' off center (our bedroom is on the smaller half of the upstairs so the other 2 bedrooms could be decent sized). Fireplace in the master bedroom/bathroom. Good idea or no?

We have a two-sided fireplace. It's placed as you describe--next to the jetted tub. The big difference is that it faces the sitting area of our master and the toilet is contained in a little room with a door so there is no watching someone in there. We use it daily in the winter months and less frequently in the fall and spring. I often turn it on for a bit before I shower to make the bathroom extra warm. In the evenings we often watch TV in bed with the fireplace turned on. Because I work out of our our house I will frequently go to the sitting area with my laptop, turn on the fireplace and enjoy it. For us the expense has definitely been worth the money as we use it much more frequently than the wood burning fireplace in the family room.

@Josie23 Thanks for pointing that out. I forgot to put a sink in the powder room but of course it will have a sink. I was mainly focusing on the master area. The powder room will be about 7.5 feet long x 3.5 feet wide which should be plenty of room for both a toilet and a sink. I read that the minimum area for a powder room is 11 square feet but this will be much larger than that. I have seen some pretty small powder rooms for sure.

Pay no attention to the strong yellow lighting coming from the bedroom. That is on our list to fix asap.

Hi, may i adk what the 3 shades if white samples are for? i did not notice it in the write-up. without knowing their purpose, my first reaction is that the lower right is much too yellow.

Yes, it's just some paint samples that I ordered very early in. That color is gentle cream. I'm glad it's too much cause we don't like it in there. Whew :) I think so far I like the navajo white but I've got to get myself to HD and Lowe's to look at the laminate samples so I can get that material ordered, now that I have a couple of leftover pieces of the swanstone surround in the crystal white color. Of my samples that I have of the laminate, the Quartzite Bianco by Formica looks nice with it. I wonder about the pattern tho. I will post a picture of my laminate samples when I can catch a minute. I've got a computer repair guy scheduled to come out today and my chicken coop pine bedding needs turned so I get to play in the poop with the girls today! Thank you so much for commenting. I'm such a nervous Nellie with these things. :)

Hi Azada and congratulations on the new bath! I love solid surfaces, so congratulations on your Swanstone. My shower is a different brand and is so easy to keep clean, you are going to love it!

Also, good for you for going laminate. I did laminate in my kitchen and on the library cabinet and have a walnut top in my bathroom. I cringe every time someone pulls out a stone that they hate and replace it with a different stone or quartz. The whole stone tops movement was justified because “it will last forever!” Well, not if you have to keep up with the latest styles. Discarding stone that took thousands of years to form and was shipped from halfway around the world into a landfill seems criminal to me. So, after I got that lecture off my chest….have you checked out the Formica and Wilsonart web sites? In my experience, the big box stores never have all of the patterns that are offered. You can order samples online, too.

At least one of the two companies has a sub group of stone looks that are printed so that there is no repeat of the pattern for the entire 8 or 12 foot length. You can get profile edges, as well. When we were doing the library ten years ago, I was lucky to find a piece of the 8 foot length on Craigslist for half of its list price. I ordered the matching edge from a local supplier and my carpenter made a top that looks like stone.

With laminates, you can change out your countertops every few years, if you like, for the price of stone.

Back to your project, you have nice, warm colors in your floor. Just looking at the paint samples, I like the top one best. I cannot read the color names, even after enlarging your photo, so I don’t know which is Navaho White. You do need to choose your countertop first, so hold off on the paint a bit. But once you order the counter, be sure to tape the paint samples you are considering up on the Swanstone above the tub so that you can choose something that looks good with the Swanstone, too. But counter comes first. Paint colors are infinite. Counters that go with your floor and Swanstone are not!
