Why doesn't anyone want to FIX anything?
Comments (11)I guess the fan motor is as good as any to discuss the problem. The one on my car is the original one from Dodge and has lasted 19 years and 220,000 miles. I buy my cars new and keep them until they die. This one is a 1990 Dodge caravan where all the seats except the front 2 have been removed making it ideal for transporting orchids to shows and meetings. To get a replacement from the Dodge dealer is $160, just for the stupid little motor. The car parts dealers have fan motors for about $25 to $35 but not my particular one which is a 'Dealer only' item what ever the H--- that means. It means officially sanctioned rip-off. By fixing mine they saved me way over $100. If I could get a Chinese one for $20 like you Arthurm, I would, for my car that just did not work out. My main complaint is about the radiator which was declared 'non-repairable' because it has a plastic top part. New radiators (probably made in China) were pushed on me for $100 to $150 plus $70 plus for labor. The fix it guys solved everything for $90 out the door by FIXING the existing parts. That's what I would like to see more of. A much more egrarious example was a repair I had on a Mercedes 500 SEL, about 10 years old. That car has since died and is in Mercedes heaven (Junk yard). About 10 years ago it failed smog and was declared to need a new catalytic converter. The big V8 has 2 exhaust pipes, connected in 2 places which each have 3 chambers for the exhaust treatment. From the engine backwards it starts with a pre-muffler, then the muffler and last the catalytic converter. That's a total of 6 units, one of which needed to be replaced. I went to the Mercedes dealer and asked for the needed part. They told me that the entire exhaust system is sold as one unit, both pipes with their 6 chambers for $1,800 plus about $500 for labor! Again off to Alameda street where with a hack saw they cut off the catalytic converter and welded an after market unit in place for a total cost of $120. Now it was no longer a Mercedes parts only car but who cares, it passed smog and my wallet did not take a major hit. I just simply won't stand for the kind of rip off the car dealers consider 'normal business practice'. Nick...See MorePM'ing on GW doesn't always work!
Comments (12)Well, dumb me and apololgies. I don't normally PM anyone, hate to intrude, and now have totally ignored another that has been so great to interact with. Our "Mr. Stevation" Between jumping forums, threads, posts.....I need a GPS. And yes I wish this site had the ability to edit our posts, along with deleting the ones no one responds to. I'm not having the problems that you have mentioned, the PMs and thread responses do come through. Although I have only sent an email 3 times. But these and the thread responses are dumped into spam, so have to check spam on a regular basis. My email is a secondary one for keeping a primary clean. I do think that the more security features we have, the more site issues crop up and not always specific to GW. Like you have mentioned, there are other sites with far better features, but the people on this forum are "kind". And, here is how I got confused with our "Steves". I was on the tools thread after reading the baby thread and went back to look at the other Steve's link to his site. I was so intrigued with how well the site was done, his beautiful and talented wife, the settings....this person went into past memories mode. After writing him, I used the back page option and landed in the wrong thread. I didn't want to write OT on the baby thread, but wanted to share with him. There was nothing secret, just special memories. For 7 years I lived about 2 miles from him, the pics of the mountains and canyons brought back so many memories. My husband and I were married in the town next to him, in the little church where "Foot Loose" was filmed. We lived up the road from the canal where they had the tractor race and the old flour mill the dance was held in the film. Had acreage right at the base of the same mountains as Steve. I had to write Steve and share how much the pics meant to me. Was curious if he was in high tech (which he is not) as both my husband and I landed in Utah due to small companies located in the area. Was hoping a bit that he may know some of the people we did. Although the area has grown 10 times over and he is the age of my youngest son. So memories flowed, as not long after our move from there my husband died and those pics of Steve's place just got to me. Our home there was priceless. Totally OT, and now I'm rambling which is why I try not to post beyond. But reason for writing him and believe me, he is living in one of the most beautiful places around. Again, my apoliges, I would be glad to write to you Stevation....on a totally different topic....See Morewhy doesn't this strawberry pie set up?
Comments (15)Okay, I've lived in the South for almost 40 years and the only kudzoo I know is that awful stuff that drapes over trees and kills them. I know that when it was originally brought to this county it was supposed to be used for cattle fodder and Southerners have been sorry ever since! Can this be the same thing? Some good purpose for this awful plant? Tell me more!...See MoreWhy doesn’t my living room look “right”?
Comments (27)Hi Holly. Is the door in between the sofas the main door in and out of the room? Your biggest factor here is layout and paint. Sorry you just painted but its the wrong color to work with your existing pieces. Also dividing the paint color below the moulding strip is making the room feel squat because of the sharp color contrast. One color to the ceiling would be ideal.. Really white or a pale pale pink is your friend here and would have been preferable. The place to have brought in some color accents would be in a rug to ground the space and some pillows. The minty green isnt the right tone. I would pull the rose tone from your fireplace tile and a deeper green. accent with warm whites. A sheer warm white drapery panel won't make the window seem so heavy and you could even mount these to the outside of the window bump out. A round coffee table would be a better fit for the furniture layout. I would do chests on either side of your fireplace and I like where you were going with the round mirror but I would do one over each chest and then bring in a piece of art for over the fireplace. Try moving your art you have on either side of the fireplace above your sofa and see how that feels. They may be too small but its worth a try. Is there a reason for the moulding behind the sofa? Your black floor lamp is overwhelming the room and I would do something that ties into the gold mirrors. If that door us used then that would not be my choice for a place to have a lamp. Thats hard to say without seeing where your travel paths are in the room. A side table and lamp to anchor the corner near the windows. Here are some ideas to tie into what I am saying....See MoreL P
