Decorating Challenge - Living Room Ideas Needed PICS
Comments (13)Thanks all! This is definitely going to be a "work in progress" and won't be done anytime soon, not only for the reason that I'll be back and forth from our home in FL, but also, I don't want to do it "all at once" I think it will be more fun, meaningful, and possibly cheaper to do it as I can and as I find the things that will fit in well and look good together. Craigslist will become my bestest friend! WORK, I honestly don't know exactly what the floor material is, but it looks like tile, even has the grout lines, has a silver and light gold tones in it, is 16x16, but it's not tile, probably some type of lineoleum. I was told the previous owners put this down to replace the brown carpet that was throughout the living, dining and hallways. I think it will work well with what I have in mind. Will have to change the wall colors I think. Anele, there's a FP in the den, I don't think we would put one in the lr, though I think a nice one could look beautiful. If we had guests over, I probably would guide them to the den, we're the type of people who like to be comfey in the den, the lr will be beautiful, but not a place we'll stay long in. Since we are moving, our circle or friends and family will be only coming to visit (hopefully) from time-to-time. CYN, the reason for a formal lr and den, other than I like them and grew up having one and currently have the same in my old home is because we love to just lounge and watch tv in the den, and I need someplace comfortable to go when I'm being banned from the kitchen when my OH starts cooking!!! Here's the picture of the bookcase /wall unit I mentioned, I thought something along this order may look nice on the left side of the room, but have it extend all the way up to the ceiling??? Does anyone know of a CAD design on line that's free and then lets you copy to a website like this one so I can do a floorplan?????...See MoreLiving Room Decor Ideas Needed
Comments (35)Gabriella, a history of your comments shows that you're mostly interested in promoting the replica MCM chairs and sideboards sold at a NYC furniture store. You wouldn't happen to work there or own the store, or be friends or partners (personally or professionally) with someone who is, would you? Also, there have been more than a dozen BBB complaints in the past three years about the store you've been recommending, which I would find problematic if I were looking to buy something there. If you're trying to do native advertising/produce placement, you have to be less clunky and obvious about it. For example, not suggesting MCM furniture when the OP states a preference for farmhouse style....See MoreLiving Room/Dining Room Ideas Needed!
Comments (4)J Castellanos - Sorry, you didn't deserve that in your thread. It's just that these Houzz "pros" are supposed to know not to pop into a thread with the sole intent of advertising their own products, and that is what the aforementioned "pro" does repeatedly. It's tiresome. Now, regarding your decorating issues ... What is on the wall across from the sectional? I see you've got your TV and console set up on the one wall, but wonder if you could move to the wall opposite the sofa and then "flip" the sofa around so that it's open to the fireplace? As it is now, it doesn't look like the fireplace gets much enjoyment by those seated on the sectional. I'm thinking that if you could rearrange things a bit, you might have space for a desk behind the sofa on the wall where the TV is now. I would not move the dining set into the living room, as that will cramp the space....See MoreWant a modern living room, dining room; layout ideas needed
Comments (27)Agree with lynartist get someone knowledgeable in to look at the walls. Shifting the color used makes a huge difference. I would not have the walls smoothed or made shiny. But there are all sorts of ways to approach this and end up with a great looking home. Consider moving the functions of the two spaces. A modern dining area with a fireplace, even such an ornate one, could be spectacular and marry well with a more intimate USED space for conversations, drinks, and even just solo book readin'! Making the switch would also de-emphasize the fireplace and allow it to look its very best. A bit of a paradox but look at many old European houses and you'll see it again and again. My other preference would be to have a wood refinisher take down the shine on the floor. Congratulations and I hope you let us know how this progresses....See Moredecordummy_gw
