Remodeling Bathrooms Design Dilemma

Bathroom tile question

Hi all! I will be renovating my son’s very teeny tiny full bath. My design board is attached.
Wondering how you all feel about marble wainscoting? The floor will be a black hex with dark grout, I wanted to do a 40” marble wainscoting topped with marble chair rail.

I like your choices. I'm wondering if the marble wainscoting/chair rail might look a little busy in a tiny bathroom, plus make it look smaller.

Also - that this obviously a more personal choice - I wouldn't spend the considerable extra expense in a child's bathroom to do anything other than paint on the walls.

Hey there, thanks for the feedback! Yes that was my concern, I didn’t want it to look busy with all of the tile work.
I hear ya, but it’s also the guest bathroom (though guests have been few and far between the last 2 years!). But I’m of the mindset I want to make something as beautiful as possible, even for my little guy 😀.
Right now the bathroom is straight out of the 80s. Lol. But thank you!

As long as they both have a similar feeling- design wise, I don't see this as a problem. People with wood floors don't paint their wall wood color. I like dark floors because they ground the space. I say go for it. Diane

It is helpful to compile some inspiration photos so you get an idea of what you like. You can create an Ideabook in Houzz. For me this would be too much of the same pattern, but when you look at pictures you'll see that some people like it. So this is a matter of preference. I used a porcelain slate look on the floor of my master bath. You need to also be thinking about what color of vanity and countertop you're going to use.

The mudbed is porous. Concrete is porous. Placing the mud bed directly on top of the concrete just ensures that water will wick out very far into the room, and into any adjacent stud walls, causing moisture damage. There is no waterproofing in any of those pics. Both the floor and the walls must have a waterproofing system, beneath the tile. That is a complete redo.

I like the flooring on the right better. The one on the left that has a bit more going on feels kind of faux to me but not in a good way. I'd stick with 12x24. It just feels more contemporary than a square. I'd run the length of the tile with the length of the room. Enjoy the marble while it looks nice. I do hear it easily discolors with water stains.
