Oh Yay!! I am so excited. I am not an Atlanta girl myself - DH does alot of business in N. Atlanta & I always stay home(just not that interested.) This weekend we p/u my DS from his first year at camp in Mentone, AL so I have a good reason to go to Atlanta this week. Teacats =- great idea about stocking up on the basics - my poor candles in lanterns outside have literally dripped to the ground! Tina - I am in W. Tn. I get so sidetracked just in life in general much less with a lot of visual overload!! (maybe I should take an add pill!!) Okay, so meatballs are a MUST!! The lingonberries sound wonderful - esp. over pork, yum. Bumblebeez - I am the same way with PB outlet here in town. I go and very rarely see anything I want. Decent bedding & towels but the furniture is crappy (sorry) but they sure do have pretty magazines!! Wm. Sonoma outlet, on the other hand......pretty good stuff in there! Moccasinlanding - I was just in Mobile leaving for a cruise. We have a very good friend on Dauphin Island - DH & DS have been to see him but I had to stay home. I will let you know how it goes. Well, now I am thoroughly confused :-) Sorry, I should have pasted the pictures from my prior thread. This is a dining/living combo room, and one of the long sides is a major walkway to the kitchen. So we'll pass the table every day, several times a day. The room looks big due to lack of furniture but only is a bit over than 18'x28'. It is 64" from the center of the light to the built-in counter. Not sure about moving the light as it is centered in the ceiling bay. The architect designed the room assuming a 44" wide table. robotropolis, I have been thinking about the size -- the table in our kitchen is 92"x35". We've squeezed 9 a few times, the kids and I are small, but the kids are growing fast. I have been eyeing the 96"x34" Parsons from R&B as a replacement for the kitchen, since the leg placement definitely is better! (The IKEA table above is 95" extending to 115"). At this point I am leaning towards getting one of these for the kitchen but putting it in the dining room as a placeholder while we look at other tables. I am very grateful for the other suggestions! I got quite distracted at the idea of a round table, and saw a bunch of split-base pedestals that are very intriguing. Going to search in this direction too. This is a 48" split-base extending up to 120" (6 leaves): I found a Saloom dealer nearby and will go check them out, though not sure about their table sizes. I like this photo, but the table is only 80": And this table from Macy's might work (??extends to 98", not sure of apron clearance); it goes on sale in a couple of weeks, then it will be nearly as inexpensive as the one from IKEA: Are these better?

for a pair, that's a good price. I've seen similar ones for 1100 each. I think Houzz has those exact chairs at 600 each? as for the drinks, use coasters. and a placemat. seriously. When you use wax for the finish, any water that hits it is going to leave those 'waxy water rings'. that's just the nature of the wax finish. so, use coasters, or use the glasses that prevent condensation. the kids are old enough to learn to use coasters or to be careful. and if they're not, then maybe you need a diff material for your table! (although, I have one too so I get it) Just keep the placements handy

@elcieg So is it completely obvious I really have no idea what I’m doing? RH pairs this table with the can’t-get-away-from-them x-back bistro-style chairs. I thought maybe it was an intentional thing...offsetting the massiveness of the table with something more dainty. I'm not SO much worried about breaking up the dark due to my place settings and centerpiece, though I am conscious to stay away solid-wood-backed chairs (they're few and far between, but they are out there). That being said, if I were to go a little heavier (not a fan of the acrylic for my home, personally, btw)...what about something like this? I didn’t like the cane back at first, as it reminded me the bottom of grandma’s old rocker, but it’s begun to grow on me. I’m also getting rid of Windsor-style chairs and prefer something COMPLETELY different. I probably should have mentioned that up front. :)
