Help! SW Alabaster looks yellow

I’m looking for advice on what to do about my wall color. I’ve only painted one coat so far of SW alabaster, but I really can’t stand how yellow it looks! The room gets southern and western exposure, and I’m pretty sure the windows have a sort of blue green tint to them (Las Vegas). Also, I have no idea what the trim and ceiling are painted, but they don’t look yellow at all.

I went with SW alabaster because I wanted a warm white since this room is pretty dark and I’ve heard amazing things about it, but at this moment I really wish I went with any other white. I have an entire, fresh gallon waiting for me to paint the second coat, and I really don’t want to waste that money.

What are my options here? I know I should’ve sampled first, but I was convinced it would be perfect for the space when I went out and bought two gallons. Is it the windows? Could it be the light bulbs? The ceiling paint? All of the above? Any help would be appreciated!!

You can change your lighting to a cooler temperature to see if it helps. I have alabaster and it does looks yellow in some of my rooms with both natural and artificial light so I will be repainting eventually.

I have Alabaster in my whole house, inside & out. It can have a creamy look sometimes depending on the room & day sun. Although it's more on the green scale than yellow.

We've been changing out our recessed light bulbs with a brighter white (like 3500-4000 Kelvins) and I was surprised how white the kitchen cabinets looked doing that. So you could try changing the light bulbs and see if that helps before painting more.

Also, your trim & other colors in the room can affect the overall look. I used alabaster on my trim as well.

From my view, only your first photo has a "yellow" tint and even then I'd call it a creamy look. The other 2 photos don't have that and I'd bet it's bc of the lighting angle. Change your bulbs and see.

SW Alabaster is lovely light iff white but it is in the Yellow Hue family and that core characteristic in North facing space could show more predominately. I would need to see your furnishings and rugs plus better pictures of the flooring to make a better informed choice for you. Lots of great off white choices but good to understand what you plan for the room.

Thank you for your input. Unfortunately, we have to pick the paint color before lighting is in. We are also having to select wall color from out of state making it extra difficult. I am about ready to go back to one of my tried and true - Agreeable Gray or Repose Gray. If I select off white and should use the same color on trim then Alabaster would be the best option, I think Peary white will look off for the doors and trim in other areas of the house.

The LRV of Alabaster is 82. The LRV of Pure White is 84. Because most of the house is shaded I would go with the higher LRV. Before you decide on either, look at B.M. Alabaster, with an LRV of 87, it might the best of the 3 for lots of shade yard.

We are ripping out the flooring and replacing with a blonde oak LVP… Hopefully that helps? I’ll change the bulbs and consider painting the trim alabaster as well as a first step!

I think if the floor is yellowish, the alabaster will look even more yellowish with those yellow undertones in the paint. the second coat may help ive been told as i am in a similar sitaution. however, i am scrapping the alabaster and going with a lighter mix of Benjamin Moore Classic Gray, as i dont want to deal with the yellow appearing so much in different times of day and how the sun comes in on the various rooms. in a normal mid day sun that is pretty bright white, every room looks amazing with alabaster, but as the day continues, on through sunset more and more yellow comes out. i would scrap it and change colors. you may want to go with a white that doesnt have yellow or green undertones. make sure you have different sheens on wall and trim, and your trim is bright white, my favorite is pure white trim SW. are you using 3000 - 3500K lights? that may also help, if yiu using 2700k or below, you probabiy getting more yellow.
