Please help with guest bedroom layout
Comments (26)WOW mjlb - some great ideas. I've always had one vision in my head but this is a wonderful place where strangers come up with great ideas. Now I need to wrap my head around it. Why the tub/shower and not just a shower? I thought most people would prefer only a shower. This is an old house that was changed over the years. Original brick house built somewhere 1835 - 1845 (it was always listed 1825 but old maps did not show it then). Addition - where this room is located was added 1860's or so and then converted it into a 2 family in 1914 and this room into a kitchen. I think the addition was the summer kitchen and this was a servant's room. The "small" room turned into the pantry for the 2nd floor kitchen in 1914. The doorway into the main house was added when converted into a 2 family. The wall where the bed would go isn't flat but I may be able to work around it (sent DH and DS to take measurements and was surprised they weren't more exact). The window part jets out a little plus the "pillar" made of brick. Here are more pictures of the room Looking into the new guest bath Pantry built in I would like to keep but open up the top. Maybe I could put the frig on the right side where the sink will be located? I hate to remove the drawers. Should I strip the paint (sandblast?) off the brick? It's painted now but in a few places it's peeling....See MoreShopping help plz! Guest bedroom

Comments (1)this is a case of too much but not enough. 1. small round night stands, and only two. no need to clutter the center with another table. 2. the lamps are too heavy and the wrong style for the bed frames. I would go with wall mounted swing arm lamps or adjustable to free up space on smaller nightstands. 3. I like the tray idea but get two and set them on the beds or store them until needed. 4. the two pictures on the wall are too small for that wall, and they should either be stacked or side by side not askew. Go for one larger picture there instead. 5. If you still have the wall paint, consider painted the slop the wall color to bring height to that area right now is boxed down and it makes that side of the room feel heavy. 6. Those benches you have are a better length, have them re-upholstered. And paint the frame an off white or antiqued finish. the half moon is too small and not the right shape, and also people might want to set their luggage or items there and still be able to sit....See Morehelp designing a guest bedroom
Comments (21)Shutters are beautiful, you've decided to paint, you have a vision for storage. I'd think next about how to reduce fall risks as I assume she will age in place in this space. Just went through these considerations with my parents who are really healthy now, and we want to keep it that way. Their OT friend evaluated the space and two keys were: keep enough space to navigate around the bed and between furniture. In your case, could a full instead of queen be useful for more walking space? (Maybe queen is fine, can't tell without measurements. Tape it out on the floor and walk around.) Area rugs are huge tripping hazards. I can see why you want one here though. I wonder if having one as large as possible to function nearly as wall to all carpeting would be better? Glad you can find space in your home for her. You sound like a nice DIL....See Moredecoenthusiaste
