The bed can't really be move toward the door...the door opens in a way that prohibits that. Frankly I would get a smaller bed. You can hang those swing arm sconces on the wall. In the end a smaller bed is all that is going to get you all you want.

Post a to scal e plan and if you can't move the bed then do the wall of drapes and move the bed over so you can have 2 night tables proper size and why do you need so much daylight in a space you only use at night . I never understand the need for a lot of natural light in a bedroom. I would I think add a barndoor to that bathroom opening for sure.

Will bed fit on wall dresser is on?

No headboard. Wall scounces over the bed for reading, you may want the light directed up instead of down so you aren’t blinded. Light blocking roman shades that stop at the window sill. Youn then put a proper height, narrow nightstand - no lamps - on either side of the bed. A narrow bench may also be placed under the window if you need a seat while dressing.

Thanks for the suggestions. I’ve considered the wall of curtains idea. Thanks for the visual Olychick. I’ll look into it, as well as a lower fabric headboard without a dark frame around it. Patricia the slider is the only window we have on the back side of our house. It’s a middle unit townhouse. We like as much natural light coming in as we can get to illuminate the hall.

Have you looked at solar tubes to illuminate the hallway?

KW the bed does fit on the dresser wall, but then the door knocks into the bed and interrupts the light from the window coming down the hallway. We did try the bed facing the window on the door wall, but then the path to the bathroom was out of flow. We like the openness to the bathroom but understand not everyone does.

Thanks for the suggestion Anna, we have a tile roof so it’s not an option. We do have a skylight in the bathroom and love looking up at the clouds passing by!

Val it’s, While I can understand your suggestion to not have a headboard we really want something behind our heads. That’s why we are looking at Thuma bed that has low (unattached) fabric headboard and most conservative footprint I could find! There is no window sill, these are sliders. We do need to figure out nightstands, although I’m fine with the little table on slider side, we haven’t found a less than 19” nightstand for my husband’s side.

Curtain the whole wall.

get a charcol or navy headboard, add a floor lamp to one side and a table to the other. get two narrow tall high-boy dressers. add sheepskin rug,

Thanks for the detailed visual! Thuma has a charcoal headboard. We might have to go with lamps like these, especially if we do curtain wall treatment.

If you do the wall of draperies behind the bed, no reason for a shorter headboard. I might even get a larger one to set it off against the expanse of drapery fabric. In the pics I posted the headboards are substantial, but they also do not contrast too much with the fabric, so consider that aspect as well.

I don't understand anyone who doesn't 'get' why someone would want natural light in their bedroom! I love having light flowing in every space in my home. I don't have draperies to close at night, but I still love walking into my light filled rooms during the day to change the linens, clean the room, put away clothes/laundry, etc. so I completely understand the desire to not block the window. Think about mirror placement across from the window to reflect the light you get. Maybe a full length dressing mirror?

Olychick - Hmmmm you’re right! If I do wall of drapery there is no other wall decor, so taller headboard could be more dramatic! The previous owners had a large standing mirror across from the window, it did make the room look bigger/lighter.

My only reason for shorter headboard was to tuck curtain behind it when they are open and not look to bunched up, but with entire wall curtains, not as much an issue.

We used to live in a home with no curtains (only blinds pulled in bedrooms at night) because we had a “green screen” of trees and no neighbors could see in. All the daytime light was lovely! Moving to a townhouse in an urban area has had its challenges!

I have the queen Thuma bed....it's gorgeous. I love how it's assembled like a puzzle piece, it's so rock-solid.

Anna, thanks! I’ve read the reviews and everyone seems to love it! Not sure I’m in the market for a queen bed though - with my husband being 6’3” and a cat that insists on sleeping with us!

No worries, my DH is 6'3" and a queen is more than enough.

I wasn't suggesting you purchase a queen, I was just sharing that I had the bed and could vouch for it's beauty and unusual construction. Obviously, you get the size you need.

I really love the idea of a wall of drapes. If you did that, you could even keep your current headboard, unless you want to change it regardless.
I think a floor lamp is a great idea, but I have to have a surface to set water, a book, my phone, etc on. Have you thought about a floor lamp/table combo? There are some pretty nice ones out there now.
