Master bedroom color scheme, help!

I have a large master bedroom with a sitting area and columns separating from bedroom area.. I am recently married and I want to refresh the room but I have limitations. It has very ornate cream colored moldings and built ins (leaning toward the yellow side) Thinking of a grey tone or maybe something else neutral. Also there is a very ornate fireplace that is currently a soft blue/green color with a cream color marble surround. This could be a highlight wall and was thinking it could be a deeper shade then the walls? I also need a carpet. I want to get simple modern furniture and keep the bedding clean and simple. It could be an interesting eclectic look, if I get this right. I am pretyy good with decorating, but this has my head spinning. I am thoroughly confused and would appreciate any advice and actual colors if you can help.

Is the cream around the fireplace the same as the cream moldings and built ins?

A blue gray is going to make the cream even more yellow, but a green gray may work. It will really depend on the blues and creams that are already in the room.

What you said is key, to me: "very ornate fireplace that is currently a soft blue/green color with a cream color marble surround."

Let us see please. I don't envision a standout fp like it to need an accenting different paint on the wall.

Patricia Colwell Consulting - I agree the bed and nightstands don't mesh - the nightstands are more of the long term style I'm going for. We bought the bed a few years ago in haste, and it will be replaced eventually. Hoping I can make it work for a few years. So trying to decorate around the nightstands. Should you fancy any of these greyed greens from the Green-Yellow Hue Family, definitely sample in your space to see how they render. Any low Chroma ( near neutral ) colours from this neighbourhood, can shift blue in certain imbalanced light. Best to double check how they might work in your room.

Softly muted blue-green and creamy together can be a romantic combo. Doesn't mean you couldn't add a bright pink eclectic mix and soft brown leopard... half joking, but what do you want for the entire room? !
