Has anyone used LVT in master bathroom or any other bathroom?
Comments (5)O.K. so I said "luxury vinyl" no way ever. Used this in a small bathroom and love it. Many of the very upscale homes in this area are are using luxury vinyl in baths. This one has a super nice attached underlayment, a nice textured surface, and is so much warmer feeling than ceramic tile... you may be thinking more tile than plank... but thought I'd throw it out there :) Good luck on your decision! https://www.lowes.com/pd/SMARTCORE-Ultra-8-Piece-5-91-in-x-48-03-in-Blue-Ridge-Pine-Luxury-Locking-Vinyl-Plank-Flooring/1000196679...See MoreMaster Bathroom Design/style
Comments (24)@Jan Moyer Ha! So not building. Just closed on the house, and making final choices so we can get started with our GC on time. :) I'm 4 months pregnant with our 4th. I've been in the tub 2x this week. ;) I promise we are using the tub even with our busy lives (and we are in a TINY rental at the moment). We aren't doing the storage over the toilet for sure. I think it's a bit tacky, for my tastes anyway! :) When you say cement look, you mean the accent tile with the design? (Just verifying as I'm new to all the design lingo -- sorry!) I'd love to show you the whole house, but I don't have the "floor plan" -- -just some pics of the inside and a kitchen design plan! :) We are knocking out a lot of walls to open it all up. The front living room has a half cathedral ceiling to which we are adding some beams for interest because the ceiling is uninteresting and in need of character. Everything is getting a facelift. Once the "major" projects are done (master bath, kitchen, and guest bath)... we will be adding in some built in shelves as well. @Beth whoa! Thank you for all the idea photos! I like the idea of the wall mounted faucets. I want to try to find some with with a single mount (if that even exists) for easy cleaning/wiping. My other dilemma is that I know farmhouse is very trendy, but I don't want to "overdo" the farmhouse look because it IS a trend. I want it to be able to be "switched" down the road if needed. Don't get me started on paint to choose for the bathroom.... Bahahahaha! @Diana Bier rectified tiles --- is there an easy way to tell this? I looked online for some examples, and didn't see anything with that name. Even in the description. Perhaps it's an easy thing to see. Thank you so much (to all of you!) for your time and help. I so appreciate it. (I can't wait to start it)...See MoreProblem: A dozen houseflies a day in our master bathroom
Comments (15)House flys live up to a month. You still probably have some from the dead animal you found. Up at camp we are surrounded by woods on 3 sides and a cow pasture on the 4th. We had every kind of fly imaginable. House flys, horse flys, and deer flys. We couldn't sit on the front porch without them using us as a meal. I found an easy device to keep them away from us. Take a Mason jar and put in some raw meat and water to just below the meat. Put a funnel on the Mason jar wide end up and secure. I use caulking. The flys are drawn to the raw meat and enter the funnel and can't fly back up and drown. I put them outside in an area that is somewhat protected from the rain. Since then we haven't had any flys in the house or been bothered by them outside....See MoreMaster bathroom problem
Comments (82)I see some people continue to believe that toilet placement is an absolute and that those who disagree just haven’t thought it through, notwithstanding the fact that many people that have daily EXPERIENCE of having a toilet room in their home (not a public place) prefer that set up. Honestly, I can understand why some would prefer the toilet in the main bath and would never be critical of that choice, but what I can’t understand is why some people are incapable of comprehending that there is another valid side of the issue. I also don’t understand how anyone can make such sweeping, and derogatory, generalizations about what they (erroneously) perceive to be the thought processes (or lack thereof) of those of us who have actually built a house working hand in hand with a talented architect. Countless hours of discussions. pondering, turning issues iver and around and looking at ALL sides of hundreds of issues. There are those of us who value privacy while doing our big business or don’t want to watch our spouse doing theirs and find that more important than the other issues. And most of the time when occupied the toilet door is not shut, only when privacy is important. I also shut the door when there are lingering odors while I am in the main bath drying my hair, doing my make-up, brushing my teeth etc. Closing a door while the exhaust fan in the toilet room works its magic is much preferable than having to exit the bathroom for five to ten minutes while that fan does its work. The thoughts about a future disabiliy really are valid considerations to be weighed. For us, now is more important and we’ve made it through some temporary issues without a problem. But if later in life a disability occurs, I suspect that retrofitting the bath will be the least of our problems. As a matter of fact in our house it would only involve taking down one non load bearing wall, something discussed in the design phase. Cleaning really is a red herring, if you build a toilet ”fort” with pony walls in the main bath instead you have the same problem getting to the sides and back. Also with a three, now four yearold grandson, who uses our master toilet in a room often, its really not that hard to clean. His aim is improving....See MoreJAN MOYER
