Love the wallpaper! and with a wallpaper that busy, I would keep the back splash simple.

I know some people are super-clever at mixing metals and that paper draws me to something in the burnished gold area. You didn't ask, but I wonder if you could relocate the liquor cab to a bar cart? It just seems like clutter in what is a cool kitchen. I love the red/orange of the casserole dishes in the cabs. I think you could do better with the middle cabinet. I would be tempted to put a door on that one. It seems like you have a lot of storage and too much stuff on the counter, particularly down by the refrigerator. The modern vibe gets a little clunked up with all that stuff. Could you do a modern appliance garage down there? I LOVE that paper.

I totally agree about the liquor bottles and other clutter. It is -32 outside, the pandemic is raging and I have another 8 days off, so a deep clean and purge of clutter is in the cards.

Wallpaper feels Asian inspired. Will /can it be placed so that a whole tiger fits the horizontal space between the 4 windows - that is, between the top 2 & bottom 2? Might have some paper waste to lay out that way but that’s what I’d do. I think a solid color & shiny tile BS would be a nice balance to wallpaper. i would choose Color from paper & you already have the black in counter tops so, red? or the yellow - gold of tiger body? I like that yellow gold better as you have red color in bottles & untensils on counter.. If the chairs can be recovered it might look great to copy the BS color.. Can’t decide about lights - I would defer that decision until walls done. But, a clean look light - not fussy - like you currently have would be good.

I prefer accent walls to be free of architectural detail and think the paper might work better in another room. If you love it, hang it where the impressive pattern won't be interrupted by any structural details like the windows. In addition, the table is too close to that wall for the pattern to be appreciated by diners in it's broken-up state. IMO, it would be a stunner wall-to-wall in the powder room you use daily, and guests would be wowed too! I'd like an Asian bamboo pendant with it. Paint the powder room ceiling in the black of the tiger's stripes for a complete Asian jewel box effect. Be sure to upgrade the PR lighting to 3500-4000K LED's to show it in its best light.

I was loving the wallpaper till you showed the wall it was going on. I think the scale of the pattern is too big when you consider the windows and how the pattern will get chopped up.

red is stimulative. your kitchen is likeable because it seems very calm to work in. the wood is serene. the tigers are not needed. the kitchen looks like it gets busy. If you want print I would do a botanical w blues and greens and leave aggressive animals out of it. I had a yellowish warm paint in the kitchen.....changed it to a coolish light green ...much happier. Reds and all that can be an area in a dining room....accents. My opinions.

Yes a powder room would be smashing, or if you have some type of vestibule entry way.

You said it would make you happy every day to see it … that’s what matters. We can give opinions based on our own aesthetic preferences, but it’s your house and you should do what will be enjoyable for you.

I think it would look fabulous there — interesting, artistic, fun, sophisticated. It would liven things up in a beautiful way.

The pattern is roaring with color, it may be broken up in lots of places on that wall, but the colors is what makes it interesting and it makes you happy to see it.

Apropos to what herbflavor said, an interesting juxtaposition for wallpaper in the modern kitchen might be a William Morris print in a color from nature, like greens, and maybe throw in some orange.

Anything in brass would be appropriate too, but more predictable. In that case I would lean into Indian motifs vs. Chinese lanterns in that chinoiserie pagoda style.

Now I want that paper! It would have looked fun in my mudroom or laundry room, but I put in a patterned floor tile, so no crazy fun papers for those spaces.

I love that wallpaper! It’s great. It would make me happy to see it in my home too. But I have to agree with the comments here that say it’s not for that kitchen wall. Do you have a dining room? That wallpaper would be so perfect for a dining room wall. Or a powder room as mentioned earlier.

And no it's not racist at all, it takes place in India, not Africa.

The protagonist clearly states his mother makes ghee, and tigers are in India, not Africa.

And the book lauds his ingenuity and bravery.

Backsplash will take a bit of effort to choose, but many different directions. You could do something really subtle and plain, or go really bold. A quick browse at Tilebar, I found these as possibilities.

I think you can go with any motif you want.

I would be careful with too much of one type of foreign motif, you don't want to look like an ethnic restaurant.

I say this as someone who has collected a lot on my travels and collects a lot in general.

You need to be judicious in what you choose, and if you have a lot of things, then use your closets (even under the beds if you have to) and rotate your lovelies.

And by the way, there are only 20 tigers left in Tibet, and as per my earlier comment, that marvelous wallpaper doesn't have to be interpreted as Tibet unless you want it to be.

As for how you use it, I would not use it to paper a whole wall.

You could cut large panels of it on either side of the four windows and frame those panels in large black frames, maybe two inches.

Then inside those wallpaper panels mount black brackets on which you display objets of beauty and interest.

Not things so huge that they obscure the wallpaper of course.

Treat them like the scrolls on the back wall of a tokonoma.

It could be a beautifully formed glass vase with a few stems of greenery or flowers (odd numbers) or lucky bamboo (which is really dracaena sanderiana.) You can find second -hand Simon Pearce or Steuben, etc in charity shops and online for a very reasonable price with only minor etching on the inside base which won't be seen anyway as the stems will obscure it.

You can display architectural artifacts, (no clocks!) fossils, taxidermy, sculpture, ethnic handiworks, candlesticks, plates, etc.

My favorite of course would be a purple shoe with crimson sole and crimson lining curled at the toe :)

I like this shape and think black would work well in the kitchen, as well as with the wallpaper.

A cluster style would be attractive vs one pendant on your long table.
