Is painting wall and ceiling both dark color bad?

I've been remodeling my place for airbnb and most of the colors I first chose were lighter colors like white dove on walls, chantily lace trims, classic gray wall on master bedroom. I started to think It's classic and timeless but somewhat boring. Then was looking through some options and saw hague blue color on farrow and ball both painted on walls and ceiling, and I loved it! It's very bold and daring. I'm a half in between i should decide what most people would favor instead of what I like. Any suggestions? Floor would be light white laminate with a slight blue undertone

Some guests might also like it.

It also might matter as to how much natural light and what other kind of lighting is in the room.

Posting to bump post for the pros -- who likely will want you to post pics of the room and give more information about light -- direct sunlight or on dark side of the building and what kind of light fixtures will be in the room.

If you're not entirely sure you want the entire room that color, then you might first try that color as an accent wall.

Classic and timeless are your friends in a rental. You don’t want anything that will be difficult to touch up quickly. Rentals get damaged frequently, and having to have down time for repairs is losing money.

Holy cow, Carol! I hope you'll share before & after pics! It's always fun to see the power of paint in action, and your project sounds like quite the transformation. I mixed paint for a renter yesterday who had similar taste, and though the landlord have given the ok, I still felt a little bad for them. I'm sorry to hear your little Ace went under! The company is doing well over all, but each store is independently owned, and the last couple years have been harder to compete in. I'm so happy to hear you're supporting another independently run store with your paint purchase. :) I'm painting my living room & kitchen BM Sail Cloth today, but Edgecomb Gray was a contender. I decided we didn't have enough natural light to keep it from being a little too dark in the living room in the evening (it changes a lot...gorgeous beige early in the day, but I'm home more in the evening, when it's more gray). Trim would have been the same white I'm using everywhere else, which is a custom blend, but pretty close to BM Simply White, I believe. I might still use Edgecomb Gray in our bedroom, which I wouldn't mind going a little dark. FYI, my store sells BM, too, and when we look up color formulas, some have an "also known as" button. I use a damp rag rather than tack cloth. Brushes should be washed and keep for a good long time. Primer and paint are costly. You'll only need a single sheet of sandpaper for the job if wood is in good shape. I painted 30 year old oil finished oak plywood bookcases last year and am delighted with the results. A lot of coats and a lot of sanding but it's easy work as primer, paint and poly all dry very quickly and there weren't any tricky areas. Scrub them clean, sand lightly to knock down any rough areas and wipe off the dust, prime with the correct product which depends on what you are covering and sand/wipe again, paint with matte/flat paint 1-2 coats and sand very lightly then use a wipe on polyurathane. Do several coats of the poly sanding with 400 grit sandpaper and wiping down between coats. No tackiness [blocking] when you do this. It's the semi gloss and above that block. Satin and flat/matte don't do it as much apparently. I did satin on the kitchen cabinets and no blocking there either. Have to agree though. Wait and see if you want to do this in the new place. Maybe dark will work better. I was very happy with the way the book spine colors pop against the light gray paint I used though. And no blocking at all!

Understand there is a cost to splitting the two (labor & materials to tape off, labor to paint another day, and slightly more paint. Check w large samples of both colors each on wall and ceiling surfaces and then determine if the cost and time is worthwhile.

Yes we need more info. Is this a bedroom or what? I like dark bedrooms mine is quite dark gray and walls and ceiling are the same but i would not do my LR in that dark color on both. As for the natural light you use artificial lighting to enhance light in a space since it usually is at night that you use the space so use LEDs 4000K to mimic daylight.

Is it a historic house, with high ceilings, large windows, generous amts of light? If theres picture rail or crown moulding, it might make more sense to have a different, but closely related color above the molding vs. below. Sometimes people switch it up and have the darker color on the ceiling, lighter and/or more neutral color on the wall.

I think vacation rentals are kind of a different animal than rental housing that people live in as their home. In fact people are often more drawn to the more exotic or unusual in a vacation rental. However the color scheme really needs to hang together in a sophisticated classy, and /or artsy kind of way .... and not just be a random hodge podge of wild colors. Might be worth hiring a professional consultant to advise - and write off of your taxes :-)

For an airbnb, stick with the traditional, unless the house has a particular style.

Funky and different from the home stomping grounds is often a big appeal of an airbnb property. Don't go too far but be judicious in using a fun color to add some life to your rental. An accent wall would be OK, but maybe not the ceiling.

Our first rental had baby poo colored walls and ceilings. It was my first and last time living with colored ceilings. CAVE it makes a room feel like a CAVE. Please don't do it.
