Sherwin-Williams Kilim Beige. I used Behr paint in an eggshell finish. Not too shiny and easy to clean. Color looks great with pretty much everything.

I used BM Cedar Key throughout the main living area when we built four years ago. A very nice medium neutral taupe that's been great to live with since. Good luck!

I recommend a pale yellow with white trim. It has enough contrast to look good with the trim but is not a dull shade. It looks great with wood floors and wood furniture. It is a neutral but a happier, more cheerful, one than beige. A soft yellow works with most other colors. We have used that on rentals and I have recommended that to many a seller with great results. I also used that in our last house and loved it.
I went with a brighter green with strong yellow tones in this house only because we wanted to try something different (the color of a frozen margarita). I'd never use a color like this green when specifically trying to appeal for sale or rental. If it were there and in great shape, fine, but you are looking for a fresh color to put on for that purpose and need something safer but still pretty.

Hmmm, what about a "Greige" color? I have taupe in my current bathroom now & tired of it quickly. Also another question...when folks suggest Benjamin Moore or Sherwin Williams and specific colors...if I go to Home Depot can I name that color to their paint dept folks and they would know it and be able to match it but in their Behr paint? I don't think I can afford BM or SW on this project...we also have to have AC overhauled and are a bit upside-down on that mortgage...just hoping to get a rental in there and hoping this dang housing market improves in the next year or two. For now we hope to do this rehab on a slim budget but still make it look nice...and we're going to have to paint trim all around too (1664 sq ft house w/3 cathedral ceilinged rooms...egads!) Thanks for all your input...keep it coming...I need good ideas from savvy bargain rehab folks on this forum! :-)

Carol, I work at an Ace Hardware, and we can look up other companies colors by name. It won't be *exactly* the same given that it's a color match made paint with different ingredients, but it will be close enough for your purpose. However, you won't know what it looks like until mixed (unless you get chips from BM & SW first). I'd bet Behr can do the same thing.

The blog Young House Love has a post where they list their favorite colors for color categories from different brands. A few Behr & Glidden colors are listed, which might help you find a color you wouldn't need to have color-matched:
Greige: Behr Ocean Pearl
Gray: Glidden Silver Dust
Tan: Glidden Sand White, Glidden Water Chestnut, Glidden Cafe Latte, Behr Harvest Brown

Or if you have an Ace nearby, I'd be happy to name some of our most popular neutrals.

Thanks for the addtl advice, Jessica of Ace. We don't have an Ace in the n'hood where the house is...it closed and will one day be a fitness center. Boo hoo...I also loved getting heirloom tomato plants at that Ace, and I knew all the folks who worked there.

So surprise surprise...I found a Benjamin Moore store not too far from my house, and I like that it's a mom & pop store run by a father and son team. Sure wish they had sales though! I picked up paint swatches and decide to go with BM Hawthorne Yellow on kitchen walls to cover garish bright mango paint renters put on. I will go with a BM glossy paint on the cabinets which renters dolled up with a different bright yellow with outlines of navy blue or something. (It's gonna take some serious Kilz to make this ready for color coating!)

Btw, I looked at "greige" swatches from Benjamin Moore and like the look of Edgecomb Gray. Has anyone here on forums ever used that on a majority of their walls, and if so what color trim did you use? Thanks again for all advice, and have a lovely weekend and KEEP COOL! :-)

Holy cow, Carol! I hope you'll share before & after pics! It's always fun to see the power of paint in action, and your project sounds like quite the transformation. I mixed paint for a renter yesterday who had similar taste, and though the landlord have given the ok, I still felt a little bad for them. I'm sorry to hear your little Ace went under! The company is doing well over all, but each store is independently owned, and the last couple years have been harder to compete in. I'm so happy to hear you're supporting another independently run store with your paint purchase. :)

I'm painting my living room & kitchen BM Sail Cloth today, but Edgecomb Gray was a contender. I decided we didn't have enough natural light to keep it from being a little too dark in the living room in the evening (it changes a lot...gorgeous beige early in the day, but I'm home more in the evening, when it's more gray). Trim would have been the same white I'm using everywhere else, which is a custom blend, but pretty close to BM Simply White, I believe. I might still use Edgecomb Gray in our bedroom, which I wouldn't mind going a little dark.

FYI, my store sells BM, too, and when we look up color formulas, some have an "also known as" button. Edgecomb Gray is also known as Baby Fawn and Alaskan Skies. What color will you be painting the cabinets?

Jessica et all...I appreciate everyone's input so much. I think I'm going to pick up paint swatch from SW tomorrow to see what Kilim Beige looks like on paper. On my 'puter monitor it looks too warm with pink or reddish undertones. But hopefully it will look better on paper! As for me posting photos, I have plenty of "before" already...and I will definitely take after photos too. Then I'll have to figure out how to post 'em in this forum (I'm a bit 'puter challenged, along with being paint/color challenged!) I'll post a pic of my dining room. Above the chair rail is Kilim Beige - below is Latte (on the same strip). I would include a pic of my living room, but my photos are way overexposed and it looks almost yellow. Looks a bit green in this photo (not at all IRL), but you get the idea. Totally not red/pink undertones at all.
