Still waiting to move

Into new apartment. I was supposed to move in October 26th but management called and said the apartment wasn't going to be ready at that point. The next date I got was the end of November. I then got another call from management saying they were waiting on the county to issue The Residency permits and it could be the second week of December. We are now at the end of December and I still haven't heard anything. I'm sure with it being the holidays the county is in no rush to issue haven't heard anything. I'm sure the county is in no hurry to issue the permits with the holidays and with the covid-19 rise I have no idea what is going to happen. All management told me was just to keep paying my rent and as soon as they are able to get my keys to me I can move. On the plus side there has been no snow here in Chicago so that makes me happy.

I actually enjoy waiting - it increases the suspense! One swap I waited three months for a package from Japan, and it was sooo worth it! These packages are very much like Christmas, and I guess they bring out the child in us at times! Normally, I would try to figure out which senders have had their packages received so that I could narrow my choices of which person is sending to me, but I've been a bit swamped with work lately (which is good, for a change). 1) agreed. 2) You can install any rating of subpanel you want so long as it matches or exceeds the rating of the breaker in the main panel that feeds it. You may have the common misconception that the sum of the circuit breaker ratings is a meaningful number and a limitation. It is not. You can have a subpanel fed with 40A and put breakers in it totaling more than 40A. If you try to load up all those breakers to full rating at once, then the breaker in the main panel will trip. That's an inconvenience situation, not a safety problem. 3)You can have one or several receptacles on a circuit. If it is on a 15A breaker then you can only put 15A receptacles on it. If it is a 20A breaker you can either put one 20A receptacle on it or any reasonable number greater than one of 15A and/or 20A receptacles. A 30A receptacle will have a different configuration and you can't plug common 15 or 20A plugs into it. Don't put a 15 or 20A receptacle on a 30A breaker. If you later want to add a load that needs 30A, either put in the appropriate receptacle or hard wire it to a 30A breaker.

Oh, contraire!! I used my kitchen for weeks before my hardware was installed. The drilling for holes and install didn't make that much mess. For the most part, I just moved a couple of things in the drawer and wiped. It only took a few minutes, but was worth being able to put all my junk away. Course, I had working plumbing, range hood, and MW though so the kitchen was completely usable otherwise. After plumbing, I think I'd do hardware next then range hood. Fridge water line, trim work, and open shelving can wait. I'm sorry the end is dragging on so slowly for you! How frustrating!

We lived onsite in an ancient (and horrible) mobile home while our house was being built. We couldn't wait to get in, but with a small house didn't want to be in the way, so we did a minimal move-in. We moved only the essentials (food, some clothes, etc.), but we waited to move the bulk of our furniture and belongings. Granted, it was only my husband and me, but even with your children you have easy access to things you realize you need for the interim. With every other house we've owned, we had a short timeline to move out of the old house and into the new, so it felt luxurious to take our time bringing in items, arranging furniture, filling bookshelves, organizing closets and cupboards without having to maneuver around boxes.

Oh no Fun2BHere. I'm only paying rent on my current place. Mgmt is rehabbing all the building and mine is next to be done. I got one of the new remodeled apartments.

I wonder if it's the same management that my son had in Rogers Park. His roommates were on the road, on the way to move in. DS and I went to pick up the keys and MGT said oh, the floors won't be ready for a couple of days. It was fine for DS, we just went home. But he had to call his roommates and tell them to turn around. (This was like 4 years ago, so no Covid issues)

Here's hoping you're in for the new year! And before it snows.

It's highly suspicious that an apartment management company would allow an apartment to stay empty even one day longer than necessary.

Not unusual to have a supply and man power issue in the pandemic. I've been waiting since October 10, to have a window made. My renter said the lawn mower threw a rock, cracking a large 4x8 picture window. It was single pane, so I used THIS as an excuse to upgrade it to double pane & quality, low E glass like the one next to it. It's had plywood up since OCTOBER!

That's got to be a bummer for you! Hopefully you will have keys soon, and be settled in a nice new apartment for the New Year (or shortly thereafter.)

You're the soul of patience!

DS has faced the same shortage of materials and labor while trying to finish out his second 'flip' house. (Some 'flip'! It's taken over a year, but it will be wonderful when it hits the market.)
