Good Things Come to Those Who Wait!
Comments (6)I definitely am planning to post pictures once we get the cooktop installed, alku05. Thanks for the comments, guadalupe. I am glad it looks great, but am a little disapointed about the wok ring. Oh well, I am sure that those 22k btu's will still wok up a stir-fry pretty well! I still haven't opened the box, so I don't know if a wok ring was included, but I sure make sure to check....See MoreI keep telling myself, 'Wait 'til it's done'...
Comments (13)My BF is a carpenter. I am AMAZED at the variety of how well these contractors run their businesses. Guys who are handy with tools aren't always very savvy about how to manage the people aspects. Some are pretty good but many are downright lousy. Sometimes it amazes me how they have him running from job to job, when a little pre-planning could have avoided it and been a much more efficient use of his time. However, in their defense, they are often juggling jobs of great variety in the variables, and not everyone has the natural talent to figure out how to make all the work flow well. Even if they did, they have to deal with suppliers and other tradesmen, who also varry in their delivery skills, so it's just part of the landscape for them. Also, their profit margin is getting lower these days, (at least in the US where there is NO labor shortage) and taking time to plan just isn't in the budget. Not sure how much money they could save by being more efficient, but so far it seems like there isn't a great demand for the time management/work flow set of skills in the trade. A lot of times it's, "Hurry up and wait." Believe me, it is frustrating sometimes for the workmen too, but they are used to it, they have to deal with all kinds of snafus on a daily basis, due to all the variables involved. If they seem a little insensitive, it's because they have to develop thick skin or they'd have imploded from frustration long ago. That's one thing I love about my Honey, he doesn't frustrate easily. Except for when we go on vacation, oddly. I think he saves up all his frustration and then releases it when he's finally away from work. Geeze, any little hiccup (like a fly in the motel room) and he goes ballistic while on vacation, lol! He wants everything to go perfectly smooth. That's his idea of vacation, never having to deal with a single personal issue or snafu!!...See Morewhy why WHY do I always wait until the last minute?
Comments (10)You guys are too much :-). And I'm shocked at how much a 2 year old's attitude resembles that of a belligerent teen! The refusing to answer when spoken to, the ignoring of direct instructions, the odd eating habits... No wait lists for any of the hotels but I did manage to find a room via Travelocity. The funny thing is that when I specified the town as "Mansfield" the hotel came up as available but changed to unavailable when I tried to book rooms. A call to the hotel itself confirmed that, no available rooms. But when I changed the town to "ashland" (about 20 miles away) the exact same hotel came up as available & allowed me to book rooms. So I did. Printed up my confirmation so I have proof. Now I'm even toying with the idea of flying out & renting a car. What with the cost of gas in my area it wouldn't be all that much more money! But I'm liking the thought of camping more & more & maybe later in the season we can get away for a few days to just camp. bring the little guy & the dog & play wild slumber party in the tent. Both the little guy & the dog would love it. Thankfully we have a big tent! Melanie, I'm beating myself up because I know better. I consciously left this until the last minute. It's a bad, bad habit of mine. I insist that I work better under pressure :-). Yes, Bill, how far west are you heading? And since you're in Maine have you ever done the trip east to Nova Scotia? Now that's a spectacular holiday! Nina...See MoreFinally! Inspection done...moving in...a few pics
Comments (27)gldnfan, I'm curious what you say about switching out the lights...now that they are required to be pin lights, how does one "switch them out"...are there other lights that use pins? Or do you mean they have the electricians come back and change the fittings? Our understanding is that with the new law it's not easy to switch...I have the same green countertop and yellowish glow on my "cream" cabinets when the lights are on...I suppose as KD's and GC's get more familiar with this people will be advised about the combination prior to choosing it! Oh well, I find I'm starting to get used to it already so maybe eventually I won't even think about it. Gary, my understanding is that the current requirement is that you must have 50% fluorescent, i.e. if you put in one pendant as in our case which is rated for 3 100 watt bulbs, you must have at least 300 watts of fluorescent...the result being that we have LOTS of fluorescent lights. Congratulations, gldnfan...sounds like ahead of me in terms of getting moved back in. Amela, I will let you know about the insets. I love the look and because my kitchen was reconfigured, I think I gained some space to help make up for any lost due to the insets. But I haven't really been able to start moving much back in as I've had a sick DS at home all week as well as a sick DH so not much energy around here. I think it's a sign that it was really time for the remodel to be done! I'll let you know what I think as I go along about the space. The insets do look really good in my house, though, as it was built in 1931....See Morescone911
