Basement Refresh: Before and After

Back in 2003, we finished off our basement, and after two kids, 3 dogs, 3 cats and three major water damage incidents, it was time to fix things up. The original flooring was 3/8" engineered wood, which was very thin, but once we fixed the damaged parts, made for a perfect subfloor for the updated (waterproof) LVP.

The flooring was the biggest expense, followed by replacing a French door that never quite aligned. Everything else was patch and paint. Painted the '90s looking maple cabinets white, which goes much better with the gray walls and blue countertop.

In the bathroom, we painted the walls, cleaned the grout and swapped out the straight rod for a curved one, and I had the medicine cabinet door re-done ($65!) I left the maple cabinets alone (for now).

We still have a bit of cleanup to do, but for 2 weeks worth of work, it's not bad.
