Comments (6)Olpea, I don't think that combo works very well. If you really wanted to do it an interstem of any standard Euro plum rootstock should work since the common Euro plum roots are all graftable on peach I expect. This spring I am going to try some one-shot interstems on some pears, I am going to graft some asian pears on pear interstem on quince all in one go, to hopefully get some compatible takes. Just do a similar thing for your Euro plum on X on peach. Before I knew better I grafted Euro plums to many things and they all worked but some were not growing very strongly. Delayed incompatibility is the main problem with Euro plums and its hard to detect that. Scott...See MoreSome forum members to speak at Asheville Blue Ridge Rose Society'
Comments (4)Thank you, Michael. I gave both the fragrance and the Knockout talks. The folks who came specifically to hear about how to care for Knockout gave me a really good set of ideas as to what new rose growers ask about first and then some of the other things they need to know. The inspiration was that this spring I had seen so many badly pruned Knockout mass plantings on my side of the mountains. The title of the Kockout talk ended up with the subtitle "First do no harm." Fortunately I-40 is open again, two lanes east bound, one lane westbound for about five miles close to the state line. Lots of slick metamorphic slates still there to slide down onto the road if they don't get them bolted in thoroughly.. The fragrance talk was about OUR part of the country and how good some roses can be as scent sources, what doesn't work here, where people can go to sniff roses (and at what time of the day) and general recommendations for us (and how to avoid falling for some marketing blurbs.)...See MoreMissing forum members?
Comments (38)Georgia, If the other SN's don't work out I can give you a small rooted plant in the spring~ so just email me if you need it... I know what it is like to have to start over and to lose your brug collection and all your hard work down the drain, and how devastating it can be. I lost mine in the fall of 2005 due to flooding from H. Rita. We had 6 ft of flood water in our yard and a few into the house (our house was up 4 ft) I was on the LA coast then and had quite a nice brug collection prior. Most slowly rotted away due to humidity and salt water in the weeks after the flood. Even some of the cuttings I brought into the house eventualy succumbed to rot due to humidity/mildew etc. I almost gave up growing brugs for awhile, and wouldn't even accept any more cutting from anyone because I was completely disgusted! Now I am finally pretty much back to where I started with the old varieties (though I don't have all of them- but most) and of course lots of new ones too. ~SJN...See MoreSpeaking of missing KT'ers....how about some pics of Jayson?
