That's normal for us, Colorado. My old house got 80-110mph winds. Had to tie down the patio furniture & grill. :0) Snow storms also blew through today. ♥ My husband asked that I NOT take the car out....he thinks it will be sand blasted.

I guess I better check the weather for the next couple of days, because what you get we'll get next.

We had that about a week ago. Gale warnings for the interior waters of the Puget Sound area and since I live only a bock away from the Sound, we got hit pretty hard. Parts of trees down hither and yon and lost power twice. Thank the gods for generators!

Maybe it is the remnants of that storm that is hitting the midwest now.

Saw on the Weather Channel earlier that Iowa may be in the bullseye for this high wind weather front. It was timed to pass through that state around 6pm +/-. Hope you get spared the worst of it Jack. That's close to being equal to a Cat 1 Hurricane, just more brief.

Local news is calling for 60 mph winds before the front and 70+ behind the front when it pushes through here in a couple hours. It's been steadily increasing all day here.

You would think it would blow all of my leaves to the next county but nope.

We've got it in Central Oklahoma as well.

Literally where the wind comes sweeping down the plains and blows your leaves out of your yard, and your neighbors into yours.

It's been blowing so hard it sounds like a B57 landing in the back yard. The neighbors swimming pool has been white capping! LOL!!!

AND It's about 80F outside. Doesn't feel very much like December. :-p

It was 62 here this afternoon. Winds picking up, supposed to be gusting to 60 MPH overnight. Our immediate neighborhood's electric wiring is underground, but comes off poles a short distance away. Glad we had our ginormous sycamore and locust trimmed last month.

Same here, high winds predicted to begin in the early morning hours, like after midnight. Sleeping in my old creaking house during high winds is virtually impossible!

It was 62° this afternoon here as well, and we've been using heat for almost a week now. We had slight winds yesterday, and so I had to vacuum up leaves around the pool.

We have sandstorms from time to time, and a bad one last summer or spring (one in March and one less bad in August). Fortunately we are able to park in the garage and therefore avoid having the car/truck get sandblasted. During the worst sandstorms, some streets get closed due to sand dunes appearing, especially on streets north of 30th Street. Fortunately, our house is south of 30th Street, and so we are not that affected.

We had large amounts of sand in our pool last March.

Typically in the winter we get Santa Ana Winds, which can cause depression, and I have to remember that, as I am particularly susceptible to that effect.

Our pool only gets white caps during earthquakes, and those don't last very long.

Gee, Lars, I think it’s in the 60s here by Chicago! We are also expecting high winds. Hope the Christmas lights stay on.

It's HEEERRREEE!! But thank goodness it seems no tornado! I live in an area that was once an oak forest. All the homes out here are surrounded by pretty dense 90-100 yr old oaks. High winds tend to knock some pretty large limbs off if not the entire tree falling. It's too dark to know for sure right now but seems like we didn't sustain any big damage..hope my neighbors were as blessed!!

News says several tractor trails blew over in Iowa and Kansas, Missouri!

I've been laying awake listening to the wind, it's strong! The house is creaking.

The storm front blew through the KC area a little after dark last night. Some individual cells were clocked at moving 90 mph! Last I heard was nearly 200K without power in the area. It didn't rain much at my house. There were some radar indicated tornado warnings around but I didn't hear of any actual touchdowns.

We are back to normal temps and winds this morning.

Where I live in Wi the weather was forecast for winds 60 miles or higher so we took everything in--didn't come here thank goodness.

Thank goodness I must have slept through the worst of if, altho I hardly ever can do that. I did wake up at 5:30am to some wind. Right now at 9am there is a bit but nothing major. No damage that I can see.

Here in Michigan, it was bad as well. Lots of power outages, downed trees. We did not have any damage's just a few limbs down in the yard. We have lots of old trees on our lot and I always worry they will fall down.

This house we NOW live in, is located in a low spot...the tree tops blow, but we don't get anything...no wind noise....or house shaking like others. Neighbors @ our last house got 101mph winds yesterday!

Wind advisory just expired here (Chicago area). It was fierce all night, reminding me why pioneers on the prairie went mad from constant wind. (Homemakers were also plagued by the impossibility of keeping dirt and dust out of their homes.) We chose to have a bedroom window open when we went to bed, "to hear the wind". That didn't last long! Once it was closed, our modern era house is so tight that the noise was only mildly distracting.

A local weatherman is comparing the recent Kentucky/Southern Illinois devastation to an even longer path of destruction in 1925 called the Tri-State Tornado, when 700 died.

Mother Nature seems to get more angry with each passing year. This event reminded me of last year when a Derecho hit the midwest and destroyed several feed silos and decimated so many farming communities out there. "Derecho" seems to be a new weather word, at least to me it is, as is this ongoing rapid intensification of destructive weather events.

We had wind gusts at 65mph early yesterday morning. We’re in the mountains of Northern New Mexico. The night before we’d just finished putting out our luminarias, all weighted down with small river rocks. They all blew over, although luckily, none blew away.

Last night, though, I was hearing so many odd noises stirred up by the winds. I think my neighbor might have had an electric line rubbing on his siding making a coarse vibrating sound. While it's not generally surprising to hear wind chimes in a gale, I am not aware of anyone close by who has one. I was hearing two chimes, a tinkly high pitched one, and a mellow low pitched one, but both of them very irregular and only occasional. Otherwise, there were creaking noises, scraping noises, whooshing noises, tapping noises, flapping noises.

I have yet to do a walk around on the house and garage to investigate whether everything is still intact. Must do so.

Here too. Southern Ontario is getting hit with high winds. Today was garbage day, so green bins, blue bins all blown over. Someone had stacked box spring and mattress and earlier today the mattress laying in the middle of the street. Someone noticed and re-stacked it. Unfortunately this isn't garbage week, so it will sit out for another week.

Our windy days don't even come close to other parts of the country. But recently they have been just under 20 mph in the mountains where I ride. We've been dealing with a lot of trees down, debris and spooky horses. The highest winds recorded this year were around 31 MPH back in October. That was the only day we didn't go out due to wind and rain. Generally we go out whatever the weather.
