Remodeling Design Dilemma Fireplaces

Wanting to remove the raised tiled hearth and cover up the the rest of the tile and crown molding from floor to ceiling with a ship lap type look. First pic is of our fireplace then I’ve included 2 screenshots of the idea that’s in my head.. just not sure how to execute this Modern remodel so please any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!! Help!!!

You plan to DIY it? IMO, shiplap and the color gray are passing out of favor. Any place else to put the TV?

most defiantly not the second photo. Getting a feel for the whole room is important, not just a close up photo. the mantel is just a glued or nailed-on addition so you can just remove that with the hearth, IDK but we need more, what are the floors going to be, the paint, the rest of the space in orientation with this?

Since you seem to be redoing the entire room including I presume furniture, make a plan and decide on a style before going ahead with anything, it's an ideal situation to have everthing coordinate. My suggestions can all be done DIY mode. Shiplap (or just leave as plain drywall) above the mantel, new wood mantel, new white oak wide plank look LVP, natural fiber roman shade on entrance door, new ceiling fan...

The arched, skinny windows are what's throwing me off, here. Feels like it leans more contemporary to me and so the traditional paneled wall feels out of place, I'd do something more like this where the wall is just drywall but you add a simple beam mantle and a tiled FP surround: In your case, you can beef up the tile surround so it's more proportional to the size of the wall and have the beam mantle run the same length as the tile.

Your fireplace has a raised hearth. Your examples do not have raised hearths. I suggest that before you move ahead with your project you search for examples of raised hearth fireplaces with shiplap paneling. Unless, of course, you plan on dropping the firebox to the floor? I don’t believe this is a DIY project, in that case.

We had a 1990’s gas fireplace at ground level with a low hearth in our primary bedroom-ended up tearing it out & reconstructing the entire area to this. I’d suggest hiring a fireplace expert & experienced contractor to assist you with your project. Best wishes to you
