Kitchen Remodel - Mixing Metals

We are remodeling our kitchen, and I fell in love with this countertop and kitchen cabinet color combination, with gold hardware.

But, I do not want to use gold throughout the entire kitchen, and I am unsure on how to mix metals for the sink and the light fixtures.

Our appliances are stainless steel, and I have included a photo of our flooring inspiration. Not sure how of the best approach.

I also looked at the combinations with black and silver hardware, and our supplier offers a softer silver which is also an option for the hardware.

Any advice is greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Love the floor choice. That is gorgeous.

Is there a reason you don't want to do the brass throughout? I like the gold hardware and think it looks good with all your other choices.

Is the white going on perimeter cabinets and the blue on an island? Or is it uppers and lowers with contrasting colours?

I think the gold hardware is a great choice with the blue.

What are you considering for your faucet. And where will the faucet be in relation to the blue cabinets.

I like the black pulls you are showing.

I'm going to guess and say the plan is white perimeter and blue on the island. If the sink and faucet are going in the blue island then I'd consider having the faucet and the hardware in the gold colour on the island. I'm not a fan of a gold faucet with a stainless sink but I think it would look really good with a white porcelain look sink.

Then I think I'd do black hardware on the white perimeter cabinets.

I really think you could do gold hardware throughout and would look great.

What about lighting? Are you using some pendants maybe? If so you could consider pendants with black and gold on them. That would help tie all of your choices together.

I did black hardware on my white perimeter cabinets, and brass hardware on my dark green island. I chose some (pendants/sconces) lighting that had a mix of the brass and black. Stainless appliances. Black faucet on the sink. People literally gasp and gush when they see it all together.

Thanks, everyone! Copper would definitely be a great complement to the oil rubbed bronze, but unfortunately, it's not one of our "builder grade" options. I also love polished nickel - it has a warmer tone that would probably complement ORB better, but it's pricier and more difficult to coordinate with our options throughout the home. I do agree that black and oil rubbed bronze can work together - in fact, our front door is a black metal double door with oil rubbed bronze edging. I do have some brushed gold decor items/accents that I will incorporate (i.e. an etagere, end tables, etc.), but I think we are still limited to some combination of ORB/brushed nickel or ORB/chrome for our kitchen faucet, cabinet hardware, and lighting. So which of those is better? Brushed nickel or chrome?

Just as long as you have them in a similar style. Just so you know - cherry and gold are warm colors, and chrome and stainless steel are cool colors. I prefer all warm colors OR all cool colors in a room. The only exception is if you have a nuetral color like taupe, greige, or bronze that can bring the two together.

Hubby is wrong. I will assume your appliances are stainless? That's a finish. The warmth of brass is lovely with stainless. A stainless faucet, Brass lighting and either satin nickel for cabinet hardware, or more warm brass. Or matte black for cabinet hardware...... Avoid polished nickel : ) It's best alone - isn't a great mixer.

Mixing metals is done all of the time. In fact, some faucet manufacturers, like Waterstone, offer split finishes, blending different metals. We happen to have been offering copper sinks to our customers for over two decades and the vast majority have stainless appliances. The kitchens look stunning. I have to partially agree with @Patricia Colwell with regard to caring for some copper sinks. Ours require no special care and I am aware of hood manufacturers that offer copper hoods that require no special care as well. A great deal of copper sinks on the market do require a great deal of care, often indicating the sink must be dried after each use. Below is an older photo of my kitchen showing a copper sink next to a stainless dishwasher. I used satin nickel faucets with all of the copper sinks. I think the two metals look nice together.

Ok! You guys got me convinced on using black as a secondary metal.

I haven’t decided on whether just the island will be blue or if we’ll do uppers/lowers. But I’m think gold hardware on cabinets throughout. Black faucet/white sink, and lighting with black and gold to tie it together.

Christina, I a, just running across this conversation. Did you complete your kitchen? I would love to see the after photo! I actually really love the brass pulls in the 1st photo. And I really love the idea of just doing your island in the blue, especially if you have a small kitchen and mixing the metals. I am happy to propose something to you if your project is not complete..
