If I served you dinner on this would you think I was or crack?
Comments (74)Heh heh, these are quite the controversy :oP I guess I have to see what the Versache logo is (since I didn't recognize it in the pattern). I thought the cups were fun, but actually when we serve coffee, we do that in the library and we use nice big chunky hand thrown mugs that I have collected from all over so these would be just for fun (or china cabinet decoration I guess). The red is rather tomatoe like. It's not pink at all. I have no red in the dining room so it won't clash with anything. I was going to have to buy several filler pieces elsewhere so I'll do a bit more research on the pattern. I don't have to buy it at Costco...but their price is cheaper. I'll email Rosenthal and ask if the Costco pattern is a different pattern, and if the quality is different than anything I'd buy elsewhere. Typically on this type of stuff it's not different...but you never know. They wouldn't be my "only" china....well I suppose they would be, but they wouldn't be my only formal dishes. My texas dishes (that's where I purchased them) were hand made in Italy. They're quite nice, they just chip easily so I don't love using them as I thought I would. We ues those more often than anything. If we entertained we'd use restaurant china (rented) it if was a group larger than a dozen or so. THere is another set that is sold at costco which is black as the primary color. It would blend with these well, so I might mix and match sets. I will have to pick up one of each and see what it looks like with my things after we get into the new place this week. I'll post some pics and see what ya'll think then :o)...See MoreWhat Would You Serve with Butternut Squash Lasagna?
Comments (9)I've attached the recipe that I've used for a long time, adapted from Gourmet Magazine.....it also has heavy cream and lots of rosemary. I can tell you that it.is.freaking.delicious. I served stuffed mushroom caps, marinated garden veggies, puff pastry cheese bites as appetizers. Sides included steamed haricot verts in a herb butter, spring greens salad with lemony vinaigrette (served as a side, not a course), marinated garden veggies. Dessert was homemade lemon ice cream, chocolate dipped shortbread cookies, fresh fruit and berries. This was a meatless dinner, but I've also served the lasagna as a side with herbed baked chicken or a nice ham. Look at this recipe option....See Morewhat serving method do you serve thanksgiving!
Comments (15)My husband's uncle used to carve the bird at the table and did a masterful job. She was a home ec professor and the food was wonderful. And he attacked that beautiful bird with great skill and aplomb. He picked the furthest from him, looked you in the eye and said "dark or white" and proceeded to slice a neat slice or 2 from the proper spot. Then he cut a hole in the turkey behind the ribs and in front of the thigh and proceeded to spoon out a spoonful of stuffing, adn your plate went back to you and the next plate was passed while you filled your plate with wild rice and mushrooms, and greenbeans with pearl onions squash souffle etc etc! Good food at Aunt Tiny's house!...See MoreWhat would you serve with coq au Vin?
Comments (36)Mom used to make Hen au Vin when we were kids. Older layers that it came time for culling, there were a few every year for a while to stock up the freezer till next round. Best chicken in wine sauce, even if it wasn't the rooster. Most commercial retired layers get composted or made into pet food now and I think it's a shame. Older chickens can be very good eating. White or brown rice was usual, sometimes bread stuffing or mashed potatoes. Mushrooms, green beans, carrots, sweet potatoes or winter squash, asparagus, broccoli, caulifower... or on a special treat, a head of both broccoli and cauliflower served up with a cheese sauce and a creamy dilly sauce in boats on the table. Depended on the time of year what sides might get served up. There were almost always salads of various greens, and a bit of a bread basket to sop up what might be left on the plate. Wasn't unusual for mom to take the leftovers (sans sauce boats) and make it all into a soup, pot pie, or stir fry or two. Depended on the leftovers....See Morepigeen
