white walls with different white on ceiling or same?!

Hello I am painting my walls polar bear white (matte) from Behr. I am wondering if I should match that same color for the ceilings or should the ceilings be ultra pure white (matte or flat)? Would love to get some feedback from the designers here. Thanks!

I am not a designer, but I personally dislike seeing white white on ceilings when the walls are a different shade (of white or a color). Especially standard "ceiling white". It makes the ceiling stand out too much. For white walls, I would prefer to use the same white.

On the other hand, though, I am a big fan of subtle color on the ceiling and have seen many combinations of color, or a shade of off white, on walls with a complimentary pale color on the ceiling that looks terrific while not drawing attention to the ceiling.

Just IMO. What would please your eye, or go best with your decor, may vary.

I am pretty much over seeing all this white everywhere, but, if you still like it, then use the same paint on the ceiling. You could use a flat for the ceiling, a matte for the walls, and if you are doing trim too, then a satin or semi gloss.

My trim is bright white and unfortunately m ceilings are that dirty color that popcorn ceilings tend to have. I wouldn't want my ceilings to be as bright as my trim, nor would I want my trim to be as dirty looking as my ceilings. I removed the popcorn in 2 rooms. In one room, I have blue walls with very light blue trim and crown molding- the ceiling is the same color as the trim. In the other room, the ceiling is the same as the wall color. I was going to remove the popcorn from my dining room, add crown molding, and paint the ceiling a pale yellow- the trim is bright white and the walls are orange, but now that I am moving I am just going to paint the walls a neutral color.

Hi Lauren! Have you tried sampling the paint already on the walls and trim? If not, that might be a good place to start. This will help you see the whites together and determine if they complement or not. Hope this helps!

I'd stick with your original plan to use a different finish on the trim and walls, but keep all the walls the same white. After you've moved in with your furniture and been there awhile, you may decide to paint one or two rooms a slightly different color for some interest. Unless you have a room like a dining area that you want to highlight now with a slighly different color. It depends on whether or not you have all your furniture or not.

My husband and I recently painted the entire interior of our “Forever Home” with Home Depot’s Behr Ultra Scuff Defense Primer and Paint; color: off white. Matte for ceilings and walls; satin for doors and moldings. We even received a 10% military discount from Home Depot, as I am a retired US Air Force Captain. The key to a great paint job is the prep work: we fixed all nail pops and cracks, sanded and primed all areas; then prior to painting , we washed and rinsed all ceilings, walls, doors, and moldings. When we were tired we took long breaks. This paint is easy to spply, no odor, no issues. Every one loves our white walls, and the walls look great all times of the day too! I’ve used BM and SW paint in the past, and like the Behr better! Best of luck in your paint journey.
