A cautionary tale :A few years ago, on Black Friday, I was looking for airpods for my grandkids. A google search brought up Target witth a great sale. i bought two, then a popup offered a coupon for two more. i figured i would just return the first two. Long story short, the website was Targeti, not Target, though the website feel was the same, and the picture was of airpods. I immediately called my bank and found they had charged $1200. Some of it the bank could cancel. I did cancel the credit card, and disputed the charge. The ”company” had no customer service, refused to respond to email, and sent a fake tracking number. The justification letter they sent to the bank in response to the dispute was unbelievable, and looked to be written by a very smart lawyer. They did ship something, which i refused. I ended up paying $89 or so, and the bank refused the rest of the charges. I consider myself very internet savvy, and still can’t believe the ease with which i was scammed.

I always feel so badly when people get taken like this. They think because they see the site and get the link at a legitimate site, that it's safe. I once got a virus downloaded that was a PITA to remove, and it came from CNN! It was buried in the middle of the page and looked (upon a quick glance) to be another news story. I clicked on it and WHAM!

I learned my lesson that day and haven't - so far! - gotten taken again.

Ugh, that’s awful, Dee! Thank you for sharing that, I can totally see how it would happen.

My dad has had to change his debit card — he (or someone else) somehow signed up for monthly ”health” pills. They’re gummys with apple cider vinegar, $90 a month! He ended up being out $60 after disputing it. I told him not to ever order with his debit card again, only a regular credit card. He swears he’s done ordering online.
