A kitchen towel or coasters are not what i think of as a gift for a family. A box of chocolates, perhaps?

Family, including children? I think I’d send Russell Stover candy (Most any drugstore) or a jigsaw puzzle.

Jojo..Doesn't the mix Josh speaks of sound so delicious? lol Reall! My C.C, T.C, all my Hoya's and many other epethites , is that how you spell that? Oh yes, many of my orchid and most of my houseplants LOVE this mix! I think you said something about being worried about having to water more often in the heat? Have you seen how HOT the temps can get where Josh lives? I have never been that hot here, and he seems to do just fine. Rhizo, you crack me up..lol Wishing everyone a Happier New Year or just as good as the last! It's 30 degrees here and already dark and cloudy at 4 p.m. So depressing. I was really hoping my plants would at least get a few minutes of sun today. Not:-( Mom send you an extra ton of love Jojo and wishes all the best for Mike too. You have been such an awesome friend after all these years. Ooh, one more thing Jojo...Take a look at what the mix could look like. I'll link you. It's 5 parts bark, one part pumice, and one part perlite. Josh thanks pal. House gift for Vietnamese family?

The orchid idea sounds really nice. I found this online, hope it helps: Vietnamese society has a fair amount of public etiquette. The following are some of the more common points: . Avoid public displays of affection with a member of the opposite sex. . Do not touch someone's head. . Pass items with both hands. . Do not point with your finger - use your hand. . Do not stand with your hands on your hips. . Do not cross your arms on your chest. . Do not pass anything over someone's head. . Do not touch anyone on the shoulder. . Do not touch a member of the opposite sex. . Shorts should only be worn at the beach. Dining Etiquette If invited to a Vietnamese home: . Bring fruit, sweets, flowers, fruit, or incense. . Gifts should be wrapped in colourful paper. . Do not give handkerchiefs, anything black, yellow flowers or chrysanthemums. Table Manners . Wait to be shown where to sit. . The oldest person should sit first. . Pass dishes with both hands. . The most common utensils are chopsticks and a flat spoon. . Chopsticks should be placed on the table or a chopstick rest after every few mouthfuls or when breaking to drink or speak. . People hold bowls close to their faces. . Hold the spoon in your left hand while eating soup. . Meals are typically served family-style. . Try to finish everything on your plate. . When you are finished eating, rest your chopsticks on top of your rice bowl. . Cover your mouth when using a toothpick.

Opening Gifts - tradition???

Sorry if I touched a nerve with you Talley Sue. That was not my intention. I was wondering how things "work" because I used to live in Chicago and many traditions there are very different from MO. For example, there was a time when the bride's veil was removed and then an apron was put on her to symbolize that she was now a wife and no longer a bride. The apron had little baby "charms" etc. on it. Another old tradtion was pinning money on the bride for a chance to dance with her. At a cousins wedding in the Upper Pennisula, MI once the banns were posted the whole town usually showed up without invitations being sent. Obviously, it was a very small town, but that was how it was done. And apparently doing the "Chicken Dance" was the norm. I had never even seen it before that. Some traditions require a "groom's cake and/or a special sweet table set up. I've seen brides carrying a bag to hold envelopes and I've seen decorated mailboxes or wishing wells for monetary gifts. Different traditions are sometimes based on old ethnic traditions. Also, there are so many changes these days from back when I was married 25 yrs ago, so that is why I'm so interested to hear about what's new with weddings these days. Actually, the last wedding we went to was back in July, but before that it's been 10 years! We are the groom's parents and not really part of planning the wedding, but will be happy to help out if/when asked. I'm not quite sure what to expect, so I'm trying to get an idea of how things are done in different parts of the country and what's now in and what's out, what's new and innovative in weddings today. I hope this explains my interest in how things work. All the best ~~ katclaws

Thanks everyone for the nice comments. Here is another pic to show just how big they are. I would say they are all no longer than a tissue box. Yes, everyone of them has a special meaning with each sibling. Ps. Are these pics coming out to big? Should I put them in a folder or something other than posting directly? Thanks again and Pss. You all inspire me. Lala

More information please. Is this a random family you are talking about, or someone in your own family? Is this like a Secret Santa gift, or a charity you're supporting? Did you draw names for a family gift exchange? Your question is vague.

Christmas ornament with family name, popcorn tin, search amazon for "under 20.00", candle, Christmas napkins or table runner. I find great things at Marshalls, Ross, Home Goods etc at great prices. Sounds like fun. Oh, how about a game for a family.

all sorts of cute things. You can shop just the Christmas stuff or other catalogs on their site. I really like illuminated stuff haha. I like both of these.

So many choices to choose from. Start with amazon and see what you find. Also delivered food treats via a web site for example nuts, Carmel corn, cheese/meat trays ect....

Maybe one of those Snapfish type calendars where you upload photos and have a calendar made using them?

This doesn't show up for some reason, so I'll post it again:

I can't quite guess what all over the country means. Are they all coming to where you are? Are you shipping all over? Shipping would be as much as the present if it was $10-15. How many presents? Or is this a white elephant, dirty santa-kind of thing where you draw names?

Look at the search box in this link

Anything your area is known for....great fudge? special fruits? cheeses, etc....gift boxes of any of these. (if you live in Michigan and want to give a car, could you add me?) ;) Set of Mugs with

flavored coffee packets, etc., etc.

Fancy gift card (cute one made yourself) for something they really like?

It's hard, and I always have trouble with the gift cards.

Frame a lovely card in a 5x7” easel back frame. I have several special Thanksgiving and Christmas cards now that I’ve received and framed and done that to. There’s always room for that kind of small frame and they always bring a smile to my face when I put them out for the season.

Kitchen towel with your state map? I just looked on Amazon, and they have at least TX and AK, probably others. I saw Maine on another website. Get a kitchen tool (a wisk, silicone spoon, wood?) or two and wrap it up cute.

Be forewarned if you haven't mailed anything lately, postal rates have gone up.

Walmart has a lot of kitchen towels from $1.96 and up some cute ones
