I have an S fabric chair that my cat peed on. The professional cleaner I called told me to test an inconspicuous spot with water or cleaner. It didn't leave a mark, so they came and steam cleaned it. After it dried I could still smell pee, so I soaked it with Nature's Miracle several times over several days until the smell was gone and kitty was no longer interested in it. You'd never know I did this. No water stains, no color runs. I'm not saying you will be so lucky, but the professional told me the fabric companies are sometimes like the clothing companies - they label things dry clean only that really can be cleaned with water. Do you have a sample you can test? Maybe remove the cushions and test the area where the spring are (I have at least 6" all around of the fabric there).

Congrats on the new furniture! Stains R not a problem but, pet hair is! This fabric attracts pet hair like "Velcro" and holds it there. I have no pets but, I have a cleaning service. My accountant, purchased a sectional and it was "Forest Green" microfiber. It looked great and then I told her that she was insane for getting it in the first place. There, I have said it, again. She, had the "Deer in the "Headlights," look!" She had 2 dogs and a cat. They died, 1 by 1 and I told her, I would quit cleaning there in the event she would get another pet. I cleaned her house 4, 16 years. I raised her $75 on that mistake on this purchase, as this thing took forever! Anti-Staic Spray, wet sponges, 3 air driven turbo tools 4, the vac, and lint rollers. I was not able to understand why she would purchase this thing in the first place. She has 3 sons and they all wear the fleece jogging suits in the winter. All of the lint is on the outside, when in the dryer. They would sit on it and it was as though U rubbed a cotton ball over the cushions, where they, were seated. This took me some time to figure out. Then I discovered that my accountant would fold her laundry on this and watch the TV. I ran into her 2 weeks ago, on Sat. while getting my hair cut. I did ask about the cat, sectional, and new cleaning people. The cat is gone, the sectional is at her son's frat house, and she wants me to come back 2 clean. Every time they come, they set off the alarm system and U only get, 3 false alarms a year. This is the same in the area where I live. She is up to 11, false alarms, at $125 for each 1. That is $$$, I think. What do I know?! I have, 3 rooms of furniture, which is dry-clean only! The interior decorator, did this, 2 me. I had no idea that this would be $2500, per year, to have all of this cleaned. At least, this does not hold any lint. Good Luck!

Just got a new Ballard catalog yesterday, and noticed that they are now emphasizing that ALL their upholstered furniture is US-made. They have some really good looking updated, but still traditional styles. As for cushions - back or bottom. Just be sure that any sofa one buys has cushions covers with zippers on them. Most are filled with poly, or poly/feather, and they will compact and droop - pretty quickly, in fact. When they do, take the pillows/cushions and their covers to a GOOD upholstery shop and have the filling replaced. Bottom cushions of often used chairs/sofas, are best done with springs and a wrap of something with a nice crown. Loose back cushions are a problem with pets - they like to use them as a hammock and they always look like an unmade bed. If they are filled with a 50/50 down/feather fill, then at least they can be fluffed up to look nice. I finally gave up and just had my sofa done with a tight back - looks SO much better. Throw pillows are easy and inexpensive to replace, and the dog doesn't sleep on them the way her predecessors did on those loose back cushions. I'm far happier. What one must realize is that today's upholstered furniture, no matter where it is made, is simply not the quality it once was. People do NOT want investment furniture - a sofa they will keep for 50 years They like change and won't pay for true quality, thus the manufacturers (even ones like Baker), have lowered the quality for price point reasons. If there are no buyers for quality, one must make lesser quality at the price point customers want to pay.

There are many issues with scothchguard on certain fabrics so IMO choose a better fabric to avoid the issues IMO scotchguard will never be on anything in my home but then I have very little fabric furniture either . I think you buy a piece of furniture that works with the use in your home and if this is a piece sitting in a room you don’t use go for it otherwise a different fabric.
