Is this too gloomy for a holiday card? I don't have any good new winter shots that I've found yet...

Kitchen finished at our PA place in time for Thanksgiving in the mountains. The hood is a little too low and will be re-installed when the correct size hood vent arrives - but at least we can cook.

I had to take a photo before the counters filled up.....they will never be this empty again.

I have to wonder how many channels the antennae on this creature bring in.

I forget what this is called, but it's blooming in a planter in my back yard right now and has more buds.

Maire, kitchen looks great. I see you used countertop material for backsplash. We are planning to do the same with a similar light quartz soon, so it was nice to see yours. We have wood cabinets too. I wanted subway backsplash but we decided just to use counter quartz even tho’ it pushed us into a second slab. Maybe that happened to you too.

My LEGO Titanic arrived yesterday! It will be almost 5 feet long and 1.5 feet high when completed. Over 9000 pieces😳

eta Laughing right now as we’ve already screwed up. The black part of the bow is in the wrong place. Check picture on box and what we’ve put together☹️ We mixed up our port and starboard. 🙂

Husband and I have allotted one hour per day on this project and today was spent dismantling what we did yesterday.

I really enjoy seeing clouds that do things like this.

My hellebore seems a bit confused. I took this yesterday.

Marie, your kitchen is gorgeous and I love the counter material being the backsplash too. I like it better than any backsplash I have ever seen and it makes so much more sense to me to have it that way. I've never even considered such a thing could be possible. Of course I have never been in the position of choosing these things but if I ever do, that's the way I would go. Fantastic.

Thanks for all the kitchen comments - We built the house 25 years ago and this year decided to replace the oven, frig and DW before they needed repair. We'd heard so many complaints about appliances taking months to arrive that we ordered the oven in February and it arrived at the end of September - but it was a special order because we opted for a side opening door. It will be much easier to use and clean.

We needed new countertops because we reconfigured the island - same cabinets but switched around to accommodate a 30" oven rather than a 36" cooktop and under counter oven.

The counters and backsplash are just laminate. Since this is a vacation place we wanted to keep the costs reasonable and we splurged on the oven. Our old laminate counters were still perfect after all those years but they were very dark. I never cared for the side by side refrigerator and I'm thrilled with the French door - same size but much more useful.

Socks - I have light counters at home (Ice Flake quartzite) and I wish I had used it as a blacksplash instead of the cream subway tile which is what DH wanted. There's nothing wrong with the subway tile but at the time I wasn't confident enough to insist on it and it would have pushed us into a third slab. Both homes have small kitchens that are open to the family room and I think it makes for a cleaner, simpler look.

Muraysmom - the material is Wilsonart laminate and the price is really reasonable. We're in zone 6b and I just checked my hellebores - no buds but it's been so warm that my PJM rhododendrons had a few flowers on them last week. And I picked the last patio tomatoes today.

Roxsol now that is cool. the museum in Tennessee was great. I recommend it. I would absolutely go again.

@lynnNM - I have all sorts of art and artefacts on my walls, and I treasure them all. Most aren't worth much in money terms, but they are priceless when it comes to memories.  I think one of the things that bothers me about a lot of design and decor these days is that objects are picked for how they fit in with the "theme" rather than for any personal meaning they might have.

I agree JMM! Like you, I love the little art pieces I pick up here and there and hang them wherever suites my fancy. They don’t have to cost a lot, they just have to make me smile whenever I look at them😊

Since the (few?) things that go into your pig from time to time, almost always enter through his back, Uptown Gal, and very infrequently does anything go out, (and then usually from his belly) ... do ya figger that the mask is mainly for show (or to be allowed into the feeding room)?

I'm more than a bit amused to learn that there's some form of museum concerning the Titanic in inland Tennessee. The ship was built in Belfast and was operated by a British shipping line, could there have been any contact or connection at all with Tennessee?
