Cream Cheese Brandy Cherry Balls Question

I made these today and I'm wondering if I'm doing something wrong. This is my second time to make them and it seems to take forever to get cool enough and thick enough to make into balls. I stir the cream cheese in until it blends with the chocolate and I don't drain the cherries. Is this correct?

Edited to say, I do drain the cherries before marinating in brandy.

My question is should I drain the cherries again and do you put the cream cheese in the hot melted chocolate in chunks and stir until it blends, or whip first?
