Garbage Disposal, air switch, flange questions.....
Comments (2)1. I think the list of stuff will all work together. 2. Since you're getting a bronze faucet, does ICE make a bronze extended flange? Or Rohl? 3. The flange that comes with the GD will be a standard flange in stainless (most likely) and not usable. It won't fit the sink. The stopper will be reusable but also in stainless or just plain black. 4. since the diameters of the flange/stopper are standard, you can buy different ones from ICE. 5. A stopper for a continuous feed is so you can keep water in the sink. It's basically a round disk with a grab knob on the shiny side. A stopper for a Batch feed also has the T-shaped bit on the bottom that activates the GD when the stopper is inserted in the correct position. I'm going to guess that a '2-position' stopper is for a batch feed model....See MoreAir Switch for Garbage Disposer - tamper resistant or not?
Comments (1)It is no longer part of the permanent wiring, it is a cord and plug connected load. The tamper requirement does not apply....See MoreCounter Disposal Switch (air operated)
Comments (4)Our granite and switch were just installed on Monday and we love it! Wet hands or dry, it doesn't matter, you push it once to start it, push it again to stop it. It seems those wall switches are never in places that easily accomodate shorter people, so when I learned about the air switch, I was tickled pink! A couple of things I learned along the way that you may want to keep in mind: It's electrical so you have to have an outlet in the cabinet under the sink. If you currently have a top mount sink and you're replacing it with an undermount, the undermount will be bigger inside the cabinet. Make sure you will have enough room for the additional hole required. For example, the silgranit sink I chose has 1 large sink & 1 smaller sink and they took up so much room on the counter that I only had room for 3 holes, the faucet I chose requires 2 holes so I had to choose between a soap dispenser or the air switch, which was a no brainer for me. Hope that makes sense...good luck!...See MoreDoes air switch have to be on the same side as the disposal?
Comments (20)PK66--as far as replacing the air gap hole with an air switch after the fact, I'll tell you what my plumber told me. He said that an inspector will usually look for the GD switch at inspection. If he doesn't see the switch properly wired, whether wall or air, and find it working, you won't pass. YMMV of course, but I think a soap dispsener is the only replacement you can use for an air gap. My soap dispenser, the air gap, and the air switch all fit in the same size hole. I LOVE having a soap dispenser, btw. No freestanding hand soap container knocking around getting gunky and leaving a soap ring on the counter. And even if I was on the fence about one, I'd take a functional soap dispenser over an ugly air gap any day of the week. :) Jane--looks great! Must feel good to have another decision behind you....See MoreCandace
