Help... What is this I'm looking at and should I be concerned

So I'm looking to replace my old range. Pulled out my old range to see what the receptacle looked like. Saw this and not sure what I'm looking at. Was concerned to see frayed wires at the hole in the wall. Should I be worried?

I would be, yes. Time to call in an electrician in my opinion. Before you use the new range.

Is that mice droppings? If so that is why you have frayed wires. Mice love to chew on them.

1) they need vitamin S - Shade until they get established. you can't expect any transplanted plants to perform without problems in full sun immediately after being transplanted. They need some shade for a while until they're established. 2) I don't know who recommended lantanas for hanging pots, but from what I know, lantanas belong in the ground, and hanging pots belong somewhere up north. How big are these pots? and how do you plan to keep them watered in the summer when they dry out super fast? Lantanas are super tough plants, especially when they're planted in the ground, because they develop an extensive root system that goes deep and all over the place which is why they are drought resistant. In a pot, those roots have nowhere to go.

Ok, so-- 1) I'm somewhat inland- we get more sun that SF-- temps regularly reach the 80's and 90's in the summer, very rarely over 100, common morning fog burning off well before noon. 2) Common butterflies in the area-- Western Tiger Swallowtail, Pipevine Swallowtail, Anise Swallowtail, West Coast Lady, Painted Lady, Monarch, skippers, perhaps the Mourning Cloak as well. All that's from other butterfly gardeners though, as I'm pretty new to this. Perhaps if Joe posts on here, he can give a more detailed answer about what we have around here. I'd love to hear if people have had personal experience with the bushes-- how they grew, how fast, how high, lots of butterflies? etc etc I figure you guys have got to be the real experts on that.

[REQUEST] Help determining what kind of rock I'm looking at.

Stones commonly rise out of the soil in spring following the cycle of winter freezing and thawing of the ground. Farmers complain bitterly that they grow more rocks in their fields than crops. Thanks everyone for the encouraging comments about the fireplace - maybe it's not so bad after all! Ha! Rugknots - you're probably right that I've gotten so used to it that I'm just thinking it looks dated. But we'll see what it looks like after the repainting. You've all got me thinking now about moving forward with getting rid of the entertainment center before I was really planning to! Perhaps I should really move THAT to Phase 1 and move the new furniture to Phase 2! Hmmm! tylerandabby - I never THOUGHT about taking off the side pieces! I know they are screwed into the main center piece (because I remember the RACKET the screwdriver made when the installer screwed them together!) But the top piece is connected to the bottom piece so I'm not sure I can take it apart. Something to investigate though. Thanks for the idea!

Definitely looks like mouse damage and droppings. Maybe its a good thing, you decided to buy a new range. You could have had a fire there. Call an electrician and have that all redone, and make sure this time, its also mounted in the wall, rather than just laying behind the range, where it could get kinked and deteriorate. You need to know if the new range, has the same type of plug on it, so you know exactly which range outlet you need. That one is old, so chances are, your new range wont work with it anyway. The papers that come with the range, will be needed for the electrician. Those papers tell the electrician, what your new range needs to operate properly.

Electric ranges are not supplied with with cords. One must purchase a cord with a 3-wire or 4-wire plug that matches the range's outlet.

OP:
1. What is the cable from the black box connected to on the other side of the brown panel with the hole cut in it?
2. Unplug the gray cable from the black box and post a picture of its plug.

Yes, I know it will need a cord. Her old one may not be right, nor it may not be safe, but, the plug may be different. Dryers are the same way. When we moved here, my dryer plug wouldnt work, in the outlet, used by previous owner. She needs that cord, so that the electrician, can install a new outlet. In my state, they require a new cord, before installers can install, for both dryers and stoves, and they require new hoses, before installers will install a washing machine too.

No idea if state requirement, or city requirement, just know installers said it all had to be done and new installed by electrician, before it could be installed. Same with the dryer and same with the washing machine hoses.
